3rd Class Industrial Employee Residential District Seven is known by its residents as simply "The Downwind District" due to its less-than-convenient location near the planet York's largest industrial sector. The pollution from the planet's massive groundside shipyards and metalworking facilities gets endlessly caught in the artificial canyons where the workers live. Downwinders, as the residents are called, never leave the house without a face mask.
The foulness of the air is so pervasive that the ruling street gang, the Shards, extort money from people and businesses simply by threatening to smash their windows.
