Description This is shot of the courtyard at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, CA. I was lucky to get a shot with nobody in the picture, there were quite alot of vistors that day. Cool thing is I was able to get the guy parachuting there... which really does capture the feel of the place for me - perfect blue sky, breezy but warm... people just relaxed and having fun. Enjoy!

Having read a bunch of literature on him and his buildings, I am really envious of you - this being the only work of his I have had the opportunity to visit. This project being in La Jolla, CA makes it a real treat to visit... beautiful weather (most the time) and it whole project just seems to set a scene of the Pacific. Definitely go see it!

Im not going to enjoy this photo!! No. I refuse. Im not going to enjoy a photo of really good architecture and nice photography fully equiped with really good colors and a shot of the Salk that I have not quite seen. You see that parachuter in the distance.. ya that is me.

Wow, this is such an amazing photo.
I love the shadow on the left, keeping it nice and dark looking. And how on the other side it's really bright from the sun, like it's two different places or whatever.
Anyway, great photo again.

Great symetry between the shadows and the light + interesting to have the skydiver "landing" onto the platform!

thx! haha, the skydiver was pretty off the actual site but looking at it now, it does look like he is landing on the platform.

That was a good (non planned?) timing!

I wish you all the best for 2006.

i totally agree with everything the two people before me have said. the symmetry is absolutely beautiful, and the way the bright blue sky contrasts the building is absolute genius. i love your photography for this reason exactly!!

Love the symmerty. The contrast is really neat between the light and dark. The left side seems to be the dark, and the right seems to be the light. The shadows that go into the light side remind me of the yin yang effect- there's always some evil in good/ always some good in evil. The perspective is really nice and I like that gap in the middle that leads you eyes all the way to the back. The sky has a nice tonal range starting with a light blue at the bottom and getting darker as it goes up. I'm glad you were able to get the guy parachuting there... it makes the photo more enjoyable knowing the photographer got a good sense of feeling from it.
