“I’m just about on you, if you can trust me, you’ll make it... Over you in five... four... three... two...”

Mandibles clenched in concentration, Antak barely heard the human pilot’s words in his comm.

“NOW!”

Amid the floral bursts of anti-aircraft fire, Storm-crow 81 shrieked low overhead, guns blazing, in a sudden burst of high-speed air and falling shell casings. Almost in slow motion Antak saw a thin black line crack like a whip across his field of vision. With no time to make a mental calculation, Antak made a blind leap of faith, launching himself towards the lifeline. The sensors that registered feeling in his bionic hand had been largely burned away, but from the few that remained, he was aware of the dull feeling of a rough object moving through his grip.

With all his strength he clamped down hard.

The sudden jolt of the rope going tense almost tore his arm from its socket. His muscles burned but still he retained his mechanical death-grip on the cable. The sudden impulse of force launched him from the ground and for a brief moment he was flying as the tension decreased again.

“I’m gonna make it out, I’ve got to make it out!”

Pulled down by his weight, he landed on his side on the asphalt and bounced up again, shields flaring. He hit the ground again in a shower of sparks as his shields gave way and his slid across the road on his armoured leg guards. A blinding pain in his knee told him that part of his skin was in contact with the road, and he instinctively kicked off with the other leg and spun onto his back, allowing his armoured boots to take the force of the friction.

The tension in the rope was increasing and he could feel himself getting pulled more and more upright as the human craft rose into the sky.
Putting his weight on the cable and alternating legs to reduce the wear to each of them, Antak broke into maniacal laughter. There was no way the stupid Jiralhanae would have seen this coming and in his pain-induced hysteria, the thought of their ugly surprised faces suddenly became unbelievably funny. With his free hand he blindly fired the rest of his pistol’s clip back towards the plaza, giggling incomprehensibly and screaming insults as the Storm Crow’s engines lifted him off the ground.

Finally finished! I drew this lineart ages ago and I was really proud of the original (see: Insane) pose and setting. It was kicking about in my drawings folder for so long that I just wanted it finished so it wouldn't get tossed in my drawer and forgotten.

I was really really pleased with the shading on Antak for this one... but then I had to do a background.
Not only did the background on this actually make me actually angry with how long it was taking, it also seems I've messed up a lot of the lines which are supposed to be parallel/perpendicular. It looks 1000% better in hard copy, but sadly I think this is as good as it's gonna get on screen.

I think I need to draw on larger paper. This is an entire A4 page and things are getting too small to do all the minor minor details. Only problem with larger paper is that it's a lot more difficult to carry about a sheet of A3. That and use a T-square and Set squares.

Anyhow, despite the crappy quality scan and general fail of the background, this is pretty much done.
