Although mammal predators occupy far more dominant niches in the temperate highlands of Arvel than they do elsewhere in the known world, the title of apex predator is denied them even here, as the titan crow occupies that niche. Herds of game can be quite scarce, especially in winter. The cave hyena and highland Homotherium are both cursorial, invaluable traits in this context, but the titan crow is far more efficient at traveling between resources, a key to their success. Large male cave lions can sometimes bring down the mighty crow, though far more lions are killed by this great pterosaur than are lost to the king of beasts. For all their imposing size and bone-cutting jaws, however, the titan crow generally targets smaller game than the rest, rarely going for prey larger than takin and horses, leaving the great horned bovids and highland mammoth to their smaller competitors.
