I love the shadow technique you used, especially on sleeve and highlights on water.
But i think it could be much better, if you used much wider brushstrokes on the women's back, like these what you did on the sleeve. I think it could be more expressive.Β

I have one scenery piece that I would like some critique on.Β
Do you mind having a look at it?
Keep in mind that I've had no formal instruction or training so I'm a blank slate 
With my art, I'm not really serious about my cartoon sketches and those are just for fun. I don't really plan on doing to much with it in the future.
What I really want to learn is how to paint outdoor scenery and landscapes. I would love how to paint rivers and just moving water in general.

here's the piece and my first crack at drawing scenery. I included my two, cute pet birds in it, haha.Β
The program I use to paint is Mangastudio. I'm still learning how to use all of its brushes and various settings.Β

Water doesn't look like that and the angle of the image is confusing. The grass and stone looks like you've taken it from the top but the water looks like its running down hill.Β
I hate to break it to you but you have to go out and draw from life. Get a cheap watercolour pallet like:

Which can put water into the brush, and go draw from life. Study study study until you're sick of them, then do 20 more.Β

Nah, I dont work heavily traditional, just when I have no access to a computer. It shouldn't matter. I don't like heavy textured paper, I like clean and thin. Whatever you prefer really

My fiance and I are dying to get out of the house. We miss being able to play disc gulf but its very easy to lose a disc when there's a lot of snow on the ground
