So you may recognise this, if you're an old follower of course! I've updated quite an old piece and thats because it is a re-do of depression:

I really like this piece, but all I could see were the issues so I thought I would go back into it and see what I have learned since the last time this was done! I've got a video of the stream I did while doing this so feel free to have a peep and see what you think!

So this piece, or at least the previous piece caused a bit of a ruckus over the name. I stand by the name, and the piece. I could go on and explain why it is as it is and the imagery the style it is, rather than the over used crying person in a corner, but I won't. What I will say is, depression sucks. It sucks the love and joy out of everything, and you become this hollow shell.
I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy, and the most frustrating thing is that you can never tell when the end is, or, if it ever will come. Unlike a broken bone, you know eventually you'll be able to walk but with depression. Will you ever come out of that haze?

This is so lovely~ The black lips clash a little, but, they match her eyes. The soft colours are very beautiful. "What I will say is, depression sucks. It sucks the love and joy out of everything, and you become this hollow shell. " Ugh ... yes.

Ah, it looks fine ^^ That was just my personal opinion, but coming back and looking at it, it has it's own aesthetic and makes the piece more unique/eye catching. Keep it up!

I understand this, and can relate to this. I have severe depression, but I don't always feel like crying in the corner (sometimes I do) but mainly I just feel....dull or numb, just empty. No emotion, only haze and grey. I like your way of portraying this. Also i just love your art style, nice work!

I myself suffer from depression, and it always intrigues me to see artists and their image of it.
Personally, I relate to this piece more than the ones with people crying, because this mood honestly captures it a lot better. Even beautiful things feel dull; there may not be absolute darkness, but there is no light either. She has a distant look about her... there is just so much more that I don't know how to say, so I guess I'll summarize with - thank you.

Anatomically, i think her nose and her rigth cheekbone are little bit too bigger related to the rest of her face ....
About the emotion who emanate from her, she looks angry or irritated more than despress ... but depression can made hate in your heart (i think so) but in this case, i like very much your style of roses who's aren't blossomed, that accentuate the emotion here, depression is an obstacle for the personal fulfilment, undoubtedly !
And your colors used very accentuate this state ... who give an atmosphere little bit fade, like a life without personal fulfilment !!!
A special love for her haircut syle (so "strict") and the her color, and for her look/eyes.

I love your art style, it's kind of like loish but it is original and your own. I've seen that old piece of yours a long time back and it was in my fav. You paint beautiful roses, stems and leaves 
She has a sadness about her and you have captured the feel of depression well, and I really like her black lipstick
I would like to suggest you one thing though, you can refer to the artworks of charlie-bowater.deviantart.com… and loish.deviantart.com/ , and your style is like loish.
You have made a semi realistic nose here and all her nose bones are visible, when I see nose like that then I would expect shoulder bones to be drawn too. Just be careful about your art style and maintain a consistency that looks in harmony with the rest of the drawing.

I agree with your image of depression. You can't always sit in the corner away from people, there will have to be interaction. And most often, none of them will want to hear it so there a person is, stuck trying to pretend nothing is wrong and trying to make everything pretty. All so that no one can easily see the shadow behind the beauty.
...I hope that this makes sense, it's hard to phrase things well.

Interesting perspective. My intention was more about being surrounded by wonderful things but being incredibly apathetic to it.
But depression means something to everyone. We all have our own black days.
