Description I've been debating for an hour wether or not to put this up. I've (like most people) have always had problems with my body. I always wanted to look like.. well like a barbie. What I wanted to be wasn't achievable by REAL people. I have scars across my ribs from heart monitor electrodes and i have a lot of scars and injuries all over my body, as my medical record isn't entirely great. We all struggle with seeing ourselves as beautiful, so I'm taking a stand. I'm sick of not being good enough, and Im sick of not being HAPPY with myself. This Picture means a lot to me, so please, be respectful.

anyways, this is my piece of the "Start a Revolution. Stop Hating Your Body." campaign.

I hope to see this project explode oevr the next few years.

I am absolutely pro revolution though I should know better. …but seriously the idea and concept of this photograph makes discussions about shooting technique almost obsolete. Congratulations on that idea. I like the message itself and as soon as you start to care less about what people think about your outward appearance you can grow more and more respect for yourself. But I should avoid to make digressions here… sorry for that.

it also bothers me when girls can't embrace their beauty's no matter what size or shape their body comes in.

You asked me to take a look at your gallery and make a few comments. I'm not a professional photographer, but a pastor, so please keep in mind that that flavors the way I see things. But, my eye went right to this photo. I think the presentation is creative, and the message is good and important. You also sound like you're on the right track. Barbie is an impossible goal; those who love you would far rather have you healthy and happy!

Bravo, Alyssa!!! I love the photo and the message is tremendous. I am an adult, and I appreciate this message as much as a teenager would. As one gets older, the body changes every day. I have learned to accept my flaws and dwell on what is inside more than what is on the outside. Of course, I try to take care of myself as best as I can. I thank God every day for my good health and all the blessings I have. This is what is important. I applaud your campaign. Maria

you know what? type "start a revoluution. stop hating your body" into the search engine. just take a picture like those and write why its important to you. at the end just dedicate it to their non-profit.

I believe in the idea behind your photo strongly, but i think to make the message even stronger you could have showed your scars and anything you've ever wanted to change, stop hiding your body, because you cant love something thats hidden.

It's a great idea you have here! loving your own body is a must, or else you'll waste so much time and energy to self-hating. Not good.
Anyway, I would like your body contour sharper, so that you really show your body and give more meaning to the picture. I agree with heartagrammer below about how the paper should look, if you would want to deepen the beauty of the picture, but this works too
Also standing against a plain background makes the picture more "clean" and your body contours show more if you're taking a close picture

I like the point and the message of your picture

As far as some feedback, would of been cooler if you had done more with the paper and perhaps the text. Looks like you just ripped it out real quick to snap the shot. Maybe work with some crinkles to give it some texture or dipping the paper in tea to smudge the ink (plus color and texture)...or soaking it a bit to get it to stick your skin, burning the edges some, or if you had even wrote it on yourself. Just throwing some ideas to give it a bit more edge

imaginarybutterflies In reply to heartagrammer [2010-11-02 02:16:42 +0000 UTC]

i thought of it, i just wanted it to look fresh. i thought that if i crinkledit or aged it that the message would be portrayed as outdated.
