Description

Another part of the Red Alert Space Timeline

While the Allied Space program was mired by a lack of funding and numerous national agencies competing with each other rather than cooperation, this did mean that there was incentive to design simple and cheap systems with numerous firms working on various projects. A notable product of this venture was the Australian Firm Redsand Motors developing the SK-22 Wallaby EV rover. Taking inspiration from earlier lunar missions, the Dingo was a simple design that allowed astronauts to easily get about various operations that was easy to produce in-situ with even basic fabrication systems. First used on the colony of New Brisbane, Wallaby soon became popular with other Allied Nations. These small two man electric vehicles were so good, they got the interest in the Allied Nations. With a few quick modifications, the Dingo Combat Rover was born.

The Dingo adds to the basic Wallaby design a roll cage with a frontal screen of ballistic polymer to offer some frontal protection against shrapnel and a laser weapon on a rear arm mount. Drawing from the Dingo's main battery, this weapon can be effective against infantry. It can also be used as a laser designator. While doing so means dialing power output down to minimal levels, it does make the targeted foe more vulnerable to the fire of other Allied forces. Despite their improvised nature, Dingoes are an affordable, mobile and versatile asset which can be assembled even in basic Boot-Camp facilities.
