Description I spent a lot more time on this than I originally planned.
It turned out pretty well, especially since I did nearly everything on a single layer, but I have no clue how to paint ice or fancy effects. -w-;
Fun fact: this is one of the very few pieces that I have uploaded at full resolution.

Anyways, I thought I’d use this to reveal a bit of the reasoning behind Isa’s name and Hidden Power.

Isa is the Old Norse spelling of the i-rune and means ice. I have this book called Runes: Theory & Practice by Galina Krasskova, and the description of Isa was just perfect. It rambles quite a bit though.

"Isa is a rune of stillness and quiet, of going into oneself to find that place of quiet contemplation so necessary for spiritual growth. It is a centeredness, but one that is ever-ready to tap into wildly kinetic, crackling, Jotun-born energies of synergy, transformation, and change.

It is containment, centering, and stillness, but it isn’t without movement. It is like the limb of a tree: hard, unyielding, and plain, yet deep within surges a river of life-giving sap. Isa is far more than what it appears to be on the surface. Its beauty is not that of the delicate flower but rather, the starkness of a finely tempered blade… Isa is the place of quiet contemplation- not passive, but bursting with life and potential. It is the nurturing solitude wherein all creativity is born. It’s the roiling life-filled darkness beneath the polar ice, seemingly still and contained from the outside but really incredibly vital and kinetic on the inside…

Isa is a rune of boundaries. Too often in our interactions with other people (especially in love relationships) we give too much of ourselves; we scatter ourselves. Isa prevents this. It guards against soul loss… Isa teaches us how to cherish the self, not to the exclusion of other relationships but as a necessary core component of them. Isa is that place within the self that must be protected, nurtured, and cherished at all costs.

Because of that, it can be a rune of intensely dynamic interaction. You must be very confident in yourself to interact with someone who is firmly grounded in Isa. In its negative aspect, Isa can take that self-protection to negative and unhealthy extremes, making you reclusive and cold. It is a warriors rune, the rune of one who has found the source of his or her selfhood and power and has leapt into it, claimed it, and is using it judiciously but with full conscious intent…

There is a special integrity to Isa. Water is transformative: It can be steam, running water, still water, or ice, yet its chemical composition does not change."

I’m not going to do an analysis at this point in time. Let’s leave some room for discovery, shall we?

fasklfjalsf thank you ;w;
I personally feel that the colors could use a bit more work, but that's probably just me being overly critical of my stuff. :T

I kinda feel that there's too much red. I think there needs to be more purple in the shading. I like deep red as well, but I always seem to have a hard time getting a good variation of colors when I'm doing the shading.

Hm, I agree that some purples would look nice in there. I find purple to be a good shading color to use in general, actually.

Indeed. It works well with pretty much anything. I really need to stop being scared of using bigger variations in shadow color.

I need to start shading more in general, but that shouldn't be a problem with this new pokemon group i'm in, since your pokemon get more levels for shaded art rather than flat.

Sometimes you need a little incentive to actually do things. XD
I pretty much always shade my stuff since it doesn't really look right to me without it.
