Description
This is the initial digital sketch for the cover to Crafty Games upcoming fantasy RPG Fantasy Craft. Drawn in Manga Studio EX on a Intuos 9x12, it set up the initial layout idea based on the description by Patrick Kapera over at Crafty, including the viewpoint angle from inside a monster's mouth that I really think nails the piece.

In this one, I learned that beholders are the IP of WotC, which I was not aware of. I honestly don't care for the skullface design of the canon D&D Beholder, but if they own the likeness then even a rounder version like the one I prefer is off-limits for published material. In the final, you can see that it's been replaced by a giant centiped, but I still love the smoking socket of the one in this sketch.
