I thought Caitians were Herbivores? Or... Was that simply vegetarians? Either way, I'm not sure how many other species could have stomached Cardassian breakfast rituals.

That business started as a bit of confused editing for the long defunct FASA role-playing game.

One of the original core rule books had an entry and ability stats for Caitians. Just to make it a tad more interesting, the writer(s) suggested some (not all, just "some") Caitians adopted a vegetarian diet due to philosophical reasons. The irony is that you have some members of this species who obviously developed from obligate carnivores eating fruits and veggies for some noble ideal. Well, over the years FASA maintained the license, the rule books got revised a few times. Eventually, at one point during these revisions, the qualifier "some" was dropped and the editor(s) missed it and a subset of the Caitian population became "all" of the species. really, one of the last editions of the rule books claimed the entire Caitian species were vegans (and I don't mean denizens of the star Vega)!

Even though FASA lost the license years ago, this editing goof has been passed along by some fans as "fact".

Sincerely,

Bill

I'd be surprised if they were vegetarians....maybe by choice but not by evolution

Yeah, most of them are vegetarians, but not as a general role.

Perhaps like the Vulcans acheiving logic....for the Caitians it was to rise above primal urges including their diet

Quite possibly. Though they exist only in Star Trek Online, to my knowledge, their relatives the Ferasans are both warriors and carnivores. Also, blue.

Actually the were first introduced in the Star Trek animated series with Lt. M'Ress. Caitians appear "officially" in Trek IV and V.

Oh no, I meant the Ferasans, not the Caitians.

Oh.....and there are the Lyrans, K'zinti and another feline race I'm blanking on loosely attached to Trek

I like the waitress' expression. It seems to convey, "Hey, the food may be revolting; but I get tipped either way."

But I think she forgot to bring the Caitian her freshed squeezed lemming.

Sincerely,

Bill

I remember it being mentioned in DS9 that the Cardassians drink hot fish juice in the morning instead of coffee, great work here!Β

actually, the romans might have understood. they were crazy for liquid fermented fish guts
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garum

"Diluted with water (hydrogarum) it was distributed to Roman legions . Pliny remarked that it could be diluted to the colour of honey wine and drunk. [20]"

Clearly most species aren't sophisticated enough to enjoy fine Cardassian cuisine, another reason why Caitians are awesome :3
