Shredder looks far more intense than I remember from my childhood; then again, TMNT hasn't been a big part of my life for 10 years, so I can see why I don't remember it well. But by no means is that a bad thing; intense Shredder is EPIC!!
Composition and action feel great in this man; kudos!

Yeah, for me, Shredder is the ultimate villain. The 80's cartoon made him bumbling and incompetent, but he is a ninja master… albeit an evil one. Heroes are only as good as the villain… the accomplishment is only as big as the mountain you climbed to get to the there… the growth is only as big as the struggle was… it's something to remember. Without the Dark we would have no concept of Light. Without the law, we would have no idea of sin. So yeah, for me, Shredder is super important. He wasn't even the biggest part of the comic. The turtles killed him in the very first issue. The first comic was 40 pages long, and on page 39 it was declared, "Hmm… It seems that the Shredder… has been Shredded!" But he had such an impact… in fact, everything the turtles were, everything they had become was because of him. It was to fight him. To get revenge.
The turtles had some adventures, and eventually Shredder came back. Even though Eastman and Laird had promised themselves he would stay dead, he found his way back. And after some epic conflict they killed him again, this time they took his head. And with him really dead, they were lost. They had no direction. They did not know what to do. Everything they had become was meant to end him, but with that done, they had nothing left to do. And they struggled for some time.
There are lessons to be learned in all of that about what motivates what we do.
For me, in my imagination, the Shredder always lives. And for me he stands for something they must struggle to survive. But killing him isn't the answer. The essence of ninja is to persevere, to survive, and to live, and to be whole. There are dangers in using your sword, even if you come out alive. No one really wins in war. I think the turtles understand these things better than most, especially as they grow older.
But again, there must be conflict and there must be struggle for growth. And Shredder is an epic adversary, and when we find ourselves free from his tyranny, we will truly rejoice. But we will not be the ones to end him, that is not a weight we should bear, someone else will do that deed, the only one with shoulders great enough to carry the weight.
Pardon all the mixed metaphors. Hopefully some of that was clear.
