It is always such a joy and a gift to see wonderful art based on Tolkien, so I am truly happy if there are good reasons to make you create more!! You are so right - their artistic nature and their heroism might stem from their yearning for higher ideals. A fantastic person once shared this quote of Tarkovsky: "The artist exists because the world is not perfect. Art would be useless if the world were perfect, as man wouldn’t look for harmony but would simply live in it."
The world tainted by Melkor gave birth to the greatness of the Noldor. Wow now I find this captain all the more attractive. You did an amazing job with his face. He is the Tolkienesque warrior, not a brute who delights in war, but the artist who does what needs to be done, and then is haunted by it. I really love that the statuette is never truly finished! What does it symbolize?

I really appreciate that you shared your understanding of art and creativity here, it is very insightful and thought-provoking. Though I imagine perfect harmony as a still state of pure balance where there is no room for the individual self nor for any way of self-expression - much like Nirvana -, my views on art are still so malleable and this is a great addition to them!
It's true that Feanor's creative faculties were great in Aman, but even in Valinor there was no true bliss, since Melkor corrupted Arda as a whole, and Arda has only ever existed as Arda Marred, merely a distorted version of what it could have been. That book definitely sounds intriguing. It is nice to read an eastern take on the Soviet world, apart from the terrifying dystopias like 1984. And I believe discoveries stem from an unrest which can not be explained by harmony! Even if I can't agree with them whole-heartedly, I love well-developed and good arguments and views! I admit that even in a perfect world we could feel the need to express our appreciation of what surround us, or whatever we feel on the inside.
The more I learn of this picture's background, the more I love it. A true Noldo in spirit who creates for the seek of creation and self-expression. This is why Tolkien believed someone to be truly a Child of Eru, if that someone was a subcreator like your Captain here.

I like the fact that the clay from Himring is red, sounds like something Tolkien would write Red is the color of war and blood and kinslaying. Reminds me Legolas's line from the movies:"A red dawn. Blood has been spilled last night." (something like that)
