Description So I got to watch this 1984 classic as old as Thomas for the first time and when I saw this photo, all I had to say about it was "Hey, it's Trevor." In return, I decided to make this, although I could use some watercolor effects around Trevor's head to make this image more convincing.

Just looking at this image makes you wonder...could Sodor survive the events of this movie if the fallout had spread to it?

Considering that the island's railways rely on steam power and that the North Western uses no power signal boxes, the railways would probably be able to keep running in some form. However, growing food would be a problem; not only would there be severe Shortages of people, the large dust clouds hinder photosynthesis. Trevor would probably be on the front lines of agricultural production, as there's no guarantee Terence and other tractors would be able to work.

I think we can all be thankful the Cold War didn't end this way.

That's a pretty shoddy alpha job... Could be made more convincing if that wasn't there.

Well, if I had a smudge tool, I would have blended the edges with the image better.

It's not a bad effort really. What did you use to crop it btw? In this case for example I would download the Trevor image from the TTTE Wiki, open it up which is 'Preview' on my computer and then I would hit the toolbox icon, then go to Elliptical Section on the furthest left of the tool row. Once on that it's just a matter of shaving off the excess circumference waste until you're left with only the face mask.
For layering I use Word Document but experimenting with the Preview settings such as contrast and saturation in advance is sometimes easier than tinkering after it's been inserted on the Word page. Basically i'm happy to advise on a number of tricks if you need help but that's the bare bones process I go through on my efforts.

I used Paint. Let’s see if you can do better.

I'm not really looking to make a do-over but here's a quickie.

Normally I edit out the smokebox hinges first and also any light bits on or around the smokebox door, so when I add transparency to help blend the live action faces nothing shows through but I didn't in this case.
I haven't used Paint since high school so don't know how the various tools have changed but as I say Preview is handy for its elliptical and rectangle selections when it comes to cropping downloads/scans. I do use the more tricky Lasso section tool as well when needed but that's not usually necessary for cropping steam and diesel faces so you should be able to get the hang of it quite quickly.
