This reminds me a of a prairie dress pattern I have. There are lots of folds and pleats like this. I'll bet when a woman was pregnant, they could take some of those pleats out for her.

Thank you! It's a bit of magic to me as well. I fiddle and pleat and re-do and suddenly everything falls into place and looks right.

I love the way it drapes and drags! Is it hard to walk in and not get dirty?

Thank you! Not hard to walk in- unless someone steps on it... It does get dirty though, and the wear is hard too, so you have to interline with some sturdy fabric.

You never cease to amaze me with your exceptional and extraordinary seamstress skills! It is stunning! It is an exact replica of the gowns of that period!

Thank you!

No it is not, though I based the pattern from a gown in Janet Arnold's "Patterns of Fashion"

I shall have to procure that book!
Once, I had purchased a book of lithographs by Italain engraver of the Regency Era. Btu alas it lost in our recent move.

I think Janet Arnold's books are a bit of a "must" if you re interested in fashion history. Things has a tendency to do that in a move, alas! :-/

Yes, with my illustrations, histroical accuracy is an absolute necessity, if not, then all is in vain.
