Ok so firstly i absulutly lovr the detail in the rocks and the mermans fin and the jeans on the dude i also love the detail in there bodys (muscles) and the bubbles in and on the sea, but one thing i belive you could impruve is the sea bed as the if you were to observe the sea bed it wouldnt be that flat and there would be alot more goin on (e.g. the sand would be wavy and there would be more sea life there, like fish, not only star fish which i love how they came out by the way)
othere then that all in all its a wonderfull picture and i love the idea of it being a lifhanger (Aka that you would wont to know if the guy falls into the water, or what ever happons) the story line is wonderfull e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Okay, Ima do the sandwich thing! First of, you have lovely lines and good use of texture, especially on the rocks and the boys jeans, and the water is gorgeous!
However, I believe your biggest flaw is perspective, or lack of, it all feels a little flat, like its in a big glass box, which would be okay, I think you could have had some interesting water lapping lines where it would technically touch the glass of the lense or box ect.
Im not very good at perspective, but I would definately try to get help at someone who is, this image could have ALOT more depth to it, which would read much better!
Over all it is a lovely piece, there arent major flaws, nothing that screams out at me apart from the few I have said! It would be interesting for you to do a yin yang kind of painting with them, air and water, and legs and a tail, could look so swish!! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Yeah! And I need to remove the horizon line under the water. I mean, the actual LINE. I don't know why I left that in there. Needs another bitchin starfish back there too if you ask me, maybe on a rock that I add. Retexture the sand. The perspective on the little cliff thing is off, it looks like it's uneven and tilts towards us which isn't impossible but was unintentional, and I want to extend the cliff thing out in the background so it is more like a coast. That I think will be kind of difficult.
And the foreground is really plain--there should be moss and stuff and maybe a fish or two in there.
I really liked your idea of the water lapping up against like, I don't know, the camera lens? Like the glass box cutting into the water that we're looking through. I think that'll be really cool.

I am actually in the process of recoloring it... has it ever happened to you where you finish a long picture, and then you do two or three other pictures, then you go back and you learned something new and it's not very good anymore?

It normally takes me longer than that before I'm tempted to fix older works, I only bother to do that some times. Though I am running a series of related artworks that has been slowly growing over the years, I'm happy with all but the first two which were done when both I and my computer were much more limited, and it shows since they don't look as good as the following ones. I'm always wondering if I should re-do them or just focus on newer ones

I think it kind of depends! I wouldn't go back to fix this one if I didn't like it so much. Maybe you should sit down and try to guess how much time it would take to fix them up before you decide. Time is money.
