Description So, after I made that headstone (which was done a few months back although only submitted a couple of days ago) I wanted to do some more wood-burning. This one was part of an #Artcrossing gift for ~were-were-wolfy , who wanted rat-themed gifts (she has lots of rats - seven, I think?).

Actually I made a bit of a silly mistake because it wasn't her I was supposed to be making a gift for, but someone else. (That's the trouble with being admin - you can see everyone's profiles and then you get confused! ) But since it was made for her I sent it to her anyway, even though she wasn't due a gift yet. And she really liked it so I obviously did the right thing

I drew in pencil first then burned onto the wood with my pyrograph (bit like a soldering iron). Reference picture [link]

I made some holes in the top part of the wood so she could hang it up. You can see where she put it here and here .

Itti, this is awesome! It seriously looks great! I love how you did the rat's little face. She looks so cute and huggable! I myself love rodents, as you probably all ready knew, so I just love this.
The little paws are so cute too, and I think it's really cool how you made the fur, especially since this was done by burning wood!!! Goodness, is there anything you can't do?
In all honesty, I actually like this better then the rat in the reference picture. I think yours is much cuter and I like how you've added some personality to it, such as in the eyes and expression. I saw the pictures of how she hung it up on the cage, and it really looks wonderful there. Great work, I know if I were ~were-were-wolfy I would be thrilled with such a nice gift!!!

This is really neat Itti. Do you do wood burns (what's the proper term for this? Not engraving..) often? I bet you could make some really cool prints with an image like this.

The art as a whole I call pyrography (although that's writing with the burning pen thing, not drawing) but I'm not sure what I would call an individual piece (like the equivalent of "an engraving").

I used to do quite a few of these when I first got the kit, about 8 years ago. (Although they were more like cartoons/linearts than shaded sketches.) Then it lay hidden on a shelf for ages and then after our cat passed away my family suggested I do a headstone for her with my pyrograph (pic - [link] ) and being older and with more art experience I did more shading and experimented with different techniques and textures ad then I thought it would be something fun to do on a smaller scale as #Artcrossing gifts

Ah man, It's really cool. You should keep doing it, ever try do do portraits? I feel like you could easily sell these to people.

Yeah, I was really surprised when I got it.
When I saw the big envelope I first thought it would be some buckles I ordered.
I opened it without checking the address, and inside was this.
I really like it.

And of course I am not going to make off with my present.
I'm going to request another profile soon.
That is, as soon as I can afford some time off to make a gift.

Oh I'm sure you will And you don't have to rush it or anything either, I don't want you to feel like you have to make a gift because you got one early. Take as long as you need

I'm so glad you like it
