PERSONALITY
[ Poised ] [ Motherly ] [ Incisive] [ Subtle ] [ Affectionate ] [ Leery ] [ Guarded ]
Overall Disposition:
There aren't many cats that are harder to read than Euryale. The poised tigress keeps her true emotions well-guarded behind a mask, appearing to most with a small smile and a pair of watchful eyes. But despite her subtle personality, Euryale is actually rather kind, and tends to take on a somewhat motherly personality around younger and less experienced felines. She's endured the horrors of the world for long enough to understand how difficult it can be to be without a supportive paternal figure in one's life, and thus hopes to somewhat take on that role amongst her empire. The tigress possesses plenty of affection she's willing to share, and isn't afraid of becoming touchy. A head bump or playful nudge isn't out of the ordinary for her.
When she wants something, or better, wants to know something, Euryale won't take no for an answer. She can be incredibly incisive without much regard for personal space nor secrets others might want to keep from her. Euryale possesses a cunning intellect and lots of useful assets for taking on caravans from and to Massilia. Her aggression towards humans due to her early days in the city has shaped her to rather guarded even around felines she trusts. No matter how close she is to them, there's that doubt that follows her wherever she goes. Thus she has the tendency to be somewhat overbearing, wanting to know every detail about someone without having to give price of her own, true self. She simply likes to keep others in check, as it gives her a sense of control, and helps her ground herself again.
Euryale is the type of feline who will stand on the sidelines to observe the happenings with a watchful eye, trying to determine who she can trust and who she'll keep at an arm's length. But be assured, once she's taken a liking to someone, she's willing to help protect them with all she has.
STORY
Backstory:
Born to a breeder in the city of Massilia, you'd think Euryale and her two sisters, Stheno and Medusa, had a somewhat okay upbringing. And why wouldn't you, after all they were raised in the house of a middle class business man who wanted to dabble in the breeding business with his beloved feline, Athena. He made sure the cubs were well-fed and taken for, hoping to make a fortune for them for their beautiful pelts, just like the one their mother possessed.
However, while he was absolutely enamored with the three tiger cubs, their mother didn't quite share that same sentiment. She was a young feline, just about reached adulthood, and definitely not fond of the idea of already conceiving cubs at her age. But fate had other ideas, and soon she found herself having to feed three hungry mouths. And gods, were they loud and greedy mouths. But no matter how much she tried to stay away from them or even get rid of them, her owner always got there before her.
Thus, Euryale and her sisters' only proper caretaker was the human who forced this burden onto their mother. They were raised with little love shown by Athena, and thus relied on each other growing up – picking up on the others' behaviors and habits. Put together with other cubs around their age in hopes of socializing them more with fellow city cats, the sisters made the acquaintance of fellow tiger Vasileios. Especially Euryale found herself growing fond of the male, seeing him as her closest friend aside from her two sisters.
By the time they were old enough to be sold off, the owner found himself in a bit of a rut – although Athena's offspring was in perfect health, their personalities were far from what the buyers were looking for. Euryale for example happened to be skittish, and had the tendency to snap at whoever wasn't her owner. And no one wanted to be in possession of a tiger that could possibly harm them or their family, right?
It wasn't much different for her sisters, who were shunned for their behavior by not only their owner, but also their mother. But the sisters did not understand – what did they do wrong?
Time went by, still without any potential buyers. And as the seasons changed, their owner began to question what to do with the sisters. Eventually, he figured they'd be best off in the coliseum due to their aggression towards any humans that weren't him. He wasn't a regular visitor of the coliseum, thus he was far from aware of the horrors his beloved felines would face in there. But by the time the coliseum workers laid their chains on the tiger sisters, things were simply doomed to go wrong.
What quite happened is still a blur to Euryale to this day. All she could remember was the fury she and her sisters felt, and the will to escape the chains. She bit and clawed at whatever she could get her paws on, fighting for her freedom much like her two sisters – and ran the moment she was freed from her shackles. But by the time she arrived at the city gates, she realized that only Medusa managed to follow. As much as they wanted to return for Stheno, the two of them knew they had to keep going in order to not get caught by the workers, or worse, the hunters they'd send after them.
But not soon after Euryale and Medusa fought their way out of the city and into the wilderness, the two of them ended up getting separated as well due to the chaos on the streets. And despite Euryale's best efforts to find either her or Stheno, she knew better than to return to the city. With little knowledge on the world outside of the city gates, it seemed like her chances of survival was slim. But luckily she wouldn't be alone for long, stumbling into a familiar face. He had escaped the city himself just a few days before her, and despite the two not having been in touch much for the past few years, quickly rekindled their past friendship, thus deciding to stick together for a better life in the wilderness.
But despite their shared efforts, the young felines struggled on their own. Sure, they had the guts and the will to survive, but they lacked the extra strength they needed. As if fate wanted it that way, the two of them would eventually land in the empire of stone, and weren't greeted with kindness – but after a lot of talking and realizing that they shared a similar hatred for the city and it's inhabitants, the tigers were accepted into the ranks of the empire, working their way up to become respected members of the alliance.
