Such fantastic detail, must have taken you forever.

I'm loving the contrast between the massive detail in the main picture and then the simplicity of the painting it is drawing!

Thanks, tmyie-This was actually a pretty quick drawing (about 4 hours). It's huge (36" by about 50" or so), which allowed me to be more loose with each stroke.

absolutely love it

makes me think back to a time in 10th grade (like 3 or 4 years ago) when these ppl in my creative writing class wanted me to do something not so dark.... so i wrote a poem about masturbation and read it allowed = ]

wonderful work again....
i also like to look at it in a different way..... whereas someone who may not meet the "socially acceptable requirements" can still create something wonderful (the happy face stands for that "wonderful")

but i clearly see your meaning behind it as well (im just trying to be the optimist on the meaning, heh)

another fave

the painter in the pic reminds me of one of the brother's quay short films for some reason. i like the idea behind this one. is that a country side behind the bars?

ivanjs In reply to sportula [2005-03-20 02:43:15 +0000 UTC]

Not familiar with the brothers quay-must go look that up!

Yes, it's a quaint happy scene out the window there (more obvious in the full size BIG drawing). wanted to show a shallow attempt by his censors to make him feel more at home. So they gave him a barred window looking at a nice peaceful cliche countryside scene.

very nice piece. it sticks out apart from other things i've seen. it's a memorable piece, fun to look at from far away or close-up.

Thanks, glad you liked it.

I don't normally do really large drawings, but this one is a big one (about 5 feet wide by 4 feet high or something like that)

Thanks, Fritz. The original sketch I did had piles and piles of happy face paintings on the right side, but I decided it worked better isolating the single painting and artist.
