~History~

He seemed to have grown up within the Blanket Bog. Due to being born in the cursed world, Tephra suffered many deformities and mental ailments. His parents kept themselves alive long enough to raise him in his early years, as they had discovered that putting artifacts that had healing properties in their bodies would slow the curses down, but quite quickly died once they were met with a curse too deep for the artifacts to halt. Tephra moved on from his home after an incident happened there. People within the small, deformed village had started stealing artifacts from each other's bodies and killing for such gems. He had enough, and left. He wandered the bog, searching for ways to calm down the curses that flooded his body and blood, as the artifacts began to lose their strength in his growing curses. He made attempts at digging for more artifacts within the earth, and diving into caves to find them. However, his efforts were fruitless, and his curses began to get worse. It seemed that the artifacts that his village had weren't as common as he had thought. He found other people like him, however, they were almost dead, and most could not communicate with him. One person that had survived an attack by a monster told Tephra that a girl was wandering the bog with a secret to curing curses. She was perhaps an angel, as she had not a blemish on her skin. Tephra began searching for this girl, and eventually found her. He discovered that she was looking for snails, blue ones specifically, and drinking their blood for a cure. Somehow the blood would clean up the curses, leaving her unscathed by the dark magic. He began following her from the shadows, looking to take the snails from her by force...

Due to having such deformities, Tephra cannot make proper sounds using his vocal cords and mouth. If he were to try and speak to someone, it would come up as a high-pitched, shrilling sound (typically he would write images on wood or the dirt to try and make a story to describe things). He has learned to use this to his advantage, scaring away monsters within the swamp to stay safe and to ward away people who are going after his own prey. At times, he found himself using this sound to keep Citrine away from blue snail nests, so that he could take them for himself. However, she continued to find more, and keep them to herself.

~Personality~

Tephra is a very sneaky and quiet man. When in the womb, the curses his mother possessed passed down to him, and gave him a considerably poor start to life. His brain was quite messed up, giving him a lack of a fear-response, and little emotion to play off of. He finds himself being in a state of numb quite often, and like Citrine to a degree, chases after danger as a way of coping. However, Tephra himself does this to bring upon feelings, rather than avoid them like Citrine does. He also has difficulty understanding other people. However, somewhere along the lines he decided to try and bring himself to a state of 'humanity', trying to find ways to make himself normal. He began his search for this when he left his home. It was mostly driven out of curiosity at first, but soon became an obsession to feel normal things.
