Description I made this for Draw 'Em All's collab, but I was a bit too slow. So I'll just submit it like any other thing instead. This style is something I'm trying to practice with in any case. Although, y'know, these things are starting to look a little vector-like, but I don't actually have the capacity to make proper vectors. Maybe I should invest in a copy of Illustrator or something *turns out pockets* uh...nope?

Oh, and if you're wondering about the title, it's because, when I first saw Drilbur, it reminded me a little of the Mischievous Mole and Reconstructed Mole enemies from Mother 3: [link]

ACTUAL LOL! Here, this is for you:
I've probably already given you about five squillion of them, but you're worth it. Plus it never hurts to have spare epic badges AMIRITE

Ha ha, yeah, you probably gave me 3 or 4 of those already. XD
I just couldn't think of anything else when i saw him, it looked the exact same pose.

Well, you could always trade your spare epic badges for an awesome-nice badge

But then you might end up with too many awesome-nice badges as well. What a conundrum!

"From time to time"? Unless you're talking about the space between seconds, I think you're doing yourself a disservice, lawls.

Have you tried Inkscape ? It's legitimately free and often used as an alternative to Illustrator.

To tell the truth, I have tried Inkscape before. But that was a long time ago, and I had no idea how to actually do anything with it back then. I've had an Illustrator induction since, which kind of helped show me how both programs might be used, but I just never got past the learning curve. Now that you've brought it to my attention again, I guess I really should give Inkscape another shot. I've been using SAI for vector lines, but I really want to try at clean vector shapes. (Lawls, I love your vectors by the way, I remember faving your Xerneas a while back, haha.)

I definitely prefer Illustrator to Inkscape, but I think part of that is due to familiarity (none of my expected hot keys work in Inkscape, surprise surprise). It still seems like a capable program though.

Also, thanks!

That would make sense. So I suppose you got to grips with Illustrator first and then couldn't adapt as well to Inkscape? I have a similar issue with Photoshop, as I used GIMP first and learnt much of what I know with it (and I still use it as my main program despite PS's apparent superiority; familiarity takes then win any day.) I think for that reason, I might actually be comfortable with trying to persevere with Inkscape.

And you're welcome :U

I love the style of this! Very vector-like, and love the colors.

Thanks! I'm glad you like the colours; I just had someone IRL tell me they're off and that it should be black. What happened to artistic license?

Paha really? x] The navy hue of black looks great, don't listen to 'em haha!
Now personally, I think Coreldraw is one of the best vector programs out there, you can even demo x6 for free(30 days though). But Inkscape is also great for a free program. Like the guy above, I recommend the freeware.

Oh, really? Coreldraw can do vectors? I mean, I'd heard of Coreldraw before, but never really looked much into it, so I didn't realise it had that sort of functionality. I guess giving the trial a shot wouldn't hurt, so I should think I'll be getting on that later but yeah, I've just updated my old Inkscape installation to the newest version to try and actually learn how to use it. In other words, I had actually downloaded it ages ago but, since I didn't know a lot about vectors back then, my only reaction was

Haha I hear ya, vectors can be hard to get at first, but I've actually been vectoring since 6th grade!(but only was good at it in the past few years)
If you'd like any help with CDx6, just note me.
Good luck on your new modes of art! ^^

Really? Haha, you definitely have the evidence to back that up; I must say that your vectors are looking pretty damned snazzy. I might have to hold you to that promise later because I can't vector for toffee. I should get the hang of it eventually, though. Although, I booted up the CorelDraw trial but IMO, since it doesn't look all that different to the interface of Illustrator or Inkscape (and therefore still being alien to me), I'm probably just gonna learn with Inkscape (since I'm a cheapskate, lol). Mostly because I don't want to get used to a program I'm going to have restricted or no access to later. :U

Aw shucks, thanks! x]
Inkscape is actually really good too, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. (I am less experienced with IS though, but I'll still help you out if you'd like!)
I've actually started working with Sai about a month ago, it's way different from the vector stuff I did. I've also noticed that you are quite skilled at the program ..so maybe if you had any tips/tricks for a newbie.. heheh.. :3

Jacktoon In reply to UrpleB3atin [2013-02-27 23:43:32 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! I actually was quite impressed, haha
But yeah, since I know fudge-all about the basics of vectors anyway, I didn't think it'd really matter much what program I decided to use. I mean, I expect most of that-which-must-be-learnt is somewhat transferable in any case.
Oh, and you've just started SAI? Yeah, that's a cool program. Most people use it for painting, but to me it was always more like the "vector-lines-easy-as-you-please-machine". But sure, I'd be happy to tell you everything I know ^^ (although I can't guarantee whether or not it'd be any more than a paragr-*shot*) I kid. We should probably take this to a Note :U
