Dadadada da-da!

So I’m (re)designing some classic Scooby-Doo and Hanna-Barbera characters that are going to make appearances in my friend’s post-series Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated fics. So at the cost of ruining some friendships, one of em’s Scrappy-Doo.

Think what you will, but in my opinion almost any character can be retooled into something great. Personally I think the hate aimed at a certain pup is waaaaay too exaggerated (don’t deny that there are much worse folks in the franchise, come on now), but I can kinda see why people were annoyed.
So shobijinsandy (le future fanfic-er) and I threw around some what-ifs after doing a bit of research: The opening credits for Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo shows a certain little pup falling out of a frickin train inside a box , in at least one other episode it turns out he lived in New York with at least two other pups without any notable parental supervision, and in yet another glorious moment it was pointed out that Ruby, his mom, looks like a gray kangaroo with a bow on her head . She doesn't really look to be in the best conditon (to put it lightly), and after watching the ep she appears in? It turns out that Scrappy's dad wasn't even there when his mother gave birth to him.

While the visual results may not reveal all there to Sandy's SDMI-related interpretation of the pup, let me just say that it was pretty damn fun (and heartbreaking because damn do my friends know how to milk that angst) to use all that and then some for a good ol' fashion retooling. 8D

We were partially inspired by Scoob’s design in A Pup, because hey lookit this cutie with his tongue sticking out, but to make him more recognizable I gave him a thicker build (because his original incarnation looks kinda stocky despite his size) and a slightly larger head without making it look too bulbous in comparison to the rest of his anatomy. I also kept the short tail, not to mention made him a bluer collar (Scooby's is more of a teal color) and changed up the tag boarder from gold to silver because why not?
And if you’re wondering how the Scrappy-statue scene from The Siren's Song fits in despite the design change, then let’s just say, without revealing too much, that we have a plausible explanation for all that that has yet to be revealed to the public eye.
