Stonegaze || Tier 2 || Passive || In Progress
Your character has developed a strange and alarming ability, and is able to encase another wolf in stone with nothing but a look. A wild and unpredictable ability, Stonegaze could be useful to you and your allies, or it could cause even friends to fear you.

STAGE 1: Novice - UNLOCKED

If your wolf feels threatened, afraid, or is in imminent danger, their eyes flash brightly - and turn whomever looks them in the eye to stone. In stage 1 the target remains incapacitated for no longer than a minute, but that's enough time for your wolf to make an escape! During this stage, Stonegaze can only be activated once per day and used on one target only.

[Open-minded || Faithful || Dependable || Observant || Cunning || Ambitious || Relentless || Introverted || Independent || Stern || Solitary || Conceited || Critical || Judgemental || Merciless || Cold]

Formidable in build and somber of mien, Akstis is a quiet individual who prefers to exist almost entirely within the confines of his mind. His solemn demeanor often alienates him from his peers, making it difficult for him to attract companions. And even if he did so with ease, the he-wolf is not much of a socialite, avoiding small talk and preferring more direct, purposeful conversation. While he listens to many, he only speaks to a few. But most would not dare approach him, as his reserved nature comes across as standoffish and rigid--not the friendly sort. And perhaps he is not. It takes a long time for Akstis to warm up to new faces, and even longer still for him to understand the more complex nuances of a relationship. Rarely do his connections last long enough for him to get comfortable and learn how to navigate them properly. As a result, the brute is a private, solitary creature, left alone with his thoughts more often than not. He does not mind this so much, having developed a great deal of emotional independence. He has an analytical mind, driven to understand how the world works and uncover hidden truths rather than accepting the opinions or doctrines presented to him. To him, learning is a necessity; no different than the need for food, water, or sunlight. Open-minded, Akstis is compelled to question assumptions and form his own conclusions. His experiences have taught him that wolves talk a lot, so it is better to watch what they do--a belief that makes him keenly observant. What is more, Akstis is pragmatic, able to take the information he obtains and use it sensibly. He is cunning that way, able to fashion strategies that keep him ahead of his adversaries. This is of great importance to him, for knowledge gives one power and control. He is incredibly decisive, implementing his schemes with confidence. He puts too much faith in his abilities, and in no time at all, his hubris burns brightly into arrogance. He prefers it if his peers play by his rules, and most of the time, he insists on it. Akstis is known to look down on others on occasion, believing many to be intellectually beneath him. When this happens, Akstis can become critical and judgemental, eager to find faults and errors. He is relentless in pursuit of his ambitions, working more diligently than the average wolf. What he lacks in talent, Akstis makes up for in work ethic. So determined is he to succeed, Akstis will eliminate anyone who dares stand in his way. He is merciless, unable to spare sympathy for his enemies. He may be a cold and calculating adversary, but as a cohort, Akstis is as dependable as they come. Once it is earned, his loyalty runs deep. And when the moment comes, he will not hesitate to rise up and defend those with those who share his allegiance.

B A C K S T O R Y

Akstis was brought into the world alongside his sister, a blessing for a family who yearned for children but struggled to conceive. Darius and Petra were the proud sorts, deeply devoted to the Alpha and content to turn their backs on myths. But few were as impassioned by its eradication as Petra. Her pups would never be weaned off tales of magic nor would she entertain superstition. The Legend of the Elders was nothing more than an inspiring tale about the wisdom of three leaders who united the packs so that they could better survive the threat of Man. Three was just a number no better than those that came before. And anyone who refrained from drinking in a stream touched by moonlight would only be damning themselves to suffer through the night with thirst. And the number of ravens in the low-hanging boughs spoke only of a meal to scavenge.

She gleefully omitted the parts of history that she deemed too outlandish for her perfect children, refusing to fill their heads with folly and corrupt their young minds. They had so much potential, after all, and it would be a waste to see them cling to the bones of the past. She instead taught her children to look to the future. Darius was less opinionated than his mate, and far more reserved when it came to raising his progeny. He went along with her wishes, encouraged his pups to pursue logic and reason, and played an otherwise limited role in their upbringing.

Akstis was a quiet pup who grew into a quiet juvenile. He was always more inclined to watch and listen, keeping his true feelings close to his chest. He had few companions, save for his sister and those who she kept beside her. Marta was a better communicator, navigating social circles with ease. Akstis never envied her, for her popularity brought him many opportunities to learn. And as an adolescent standing on the precipice of adulthood, there was much to uncover about the world around him. His sheltered upbringing left room for a great deal of self-discovery, and Akstis was eager to begin.

One of his favored curiosities was a young wolf named Malaysia. He observed her from afar, keeping an ear open whenever she came near. Many dismissed her outrageous claims, his kin most of all. They were infuriated by her bold choice to seek out the Alpha, cautioning him to heed her words as if she were some great prophet or soothseer like in the tales of old. His kin swiftly branded her a heretic, a mad wolf who was unhappy with her menial existence and sought to elevate herself with lies. But Akstis was not so sure. He believed that there must be more to this young herbalist: she who spoke to spirits and promised a great awakening that would herald a new age. But he refrained from fraternizing with her if only to appease his family. Appearances were so very important, after all.

When Khnosu passed away, Petra and Darius mourned him. And they were pleased to learn that one of his sons would succeed him. It did not matter to them which one claimed the mantle, only that a wolf with his blood would lead them. But it was the moment their new Alpha rebuked the red heretic that won his family's favor. But it had not won Akstis'. He was more open-minded than his kin, and thought that rejecting the girl was a grave mistake. Young and idealistic, he believed all claims were worth investigating.

So he would.

Determined to uncover the truth, Akstis began to visit secret meetings held in the dark of night. Beneath the faint light of the moon, wolves who shared his curiosities could remain hidden from prying eyes and judgemental tongues. His family hardly noticed his absence, too preoccupied with a second litter on the way.

This time, however, the island gave them only one: a small, frail daughter who they named Leva and guarded fiercely. Akstis quickly grew fond of her, visiting her each night to bring gifts and stories their parents would approve of. But on the rare occasions when they had the den to themselves, he would tell her stories that their mother would never approve of. It would not be fair to have her grow up like he and Marta, starved of legends and the many lessons they carried. He had to learn them as an adult, and their sister never learned them at all. Marta remained just as small-minded as she had been the day she came into the world. Akstis could not allow their little sister to suffer the same fate.

The midnight liaisons continued, but still Akstis remained in the background. Their numbers swelled after Amuun murdered the Alpha's mate, and with Osirus indisposed by grief, Malaysia's supporters were free to spread their beliefs to the rest of the pack. Her most devoted followers advocated for change, a new leader to lead them into a new era. Akstis did not participate in such things. He only observed, a mere fly on the wall.

It was not until Leva grew ill that Akstis emerged from the shadows. The herbalists, even the oldest and most experienced of the trade, could do nothing for her. But maybe Malaysia, with her arcane knowledge, could. When he first brought the idea to his parents, they were appalled. Herbalist or not, they did not want the red witch anywhere near their beloved daughter. But Akstis was persistent and would not be discouraged. Eventually, he sought Malaysia out, pleading with her to help his sister. She agreed, and the young wolf brought her to his family's den. His mother was furious, denying Malaysia a chance to help her sickly child and cursing the red wolf's name as his father forced her out. Akstis spoke out against their prejudice, but his disobedience was rewarded with a scar. Bearing the marks of his mother's fangs across his cheek, Akstis was expelled from his family's dwelling. They renounced him as a son, but after his sister took her last breath, Akstis had already severed the connection.

They are no kin of mine.

After, he returned to Malaysia, fully committing to her cause. He pledged his loyalty to her and began promoting the future she promised. And when the day came to storm the beaches and greet Man, Akstis was among the first to take the plunge. As he gorged himself, the acolyte could hear the island sing his name, lending him its power. He could feel it coursing through his veins.

In the north, Akstis chose to become a Rhete. It was a trade through which he could roam and be alone with his thoughts. He would listen to the wind, hoping it would carry whispers from the opposite end of the island. The sweetest songs were those of wayward Tundes looking for purpose. And when death, plague, and famine visited their island, Akstis was eager to sow seeds of doubt. Osirus would lead them to ruin. It was Malaysia alone who would be their salvation.

Time would tell just how little his talents were needed. The Tundes had done a fine job turning on each other without his involvement, and Akstis relished in the spectacle. When Osirus was found dead, and the pack gathered to discuss its future, the scout listened intently. In the end, they divided into three distinct factions: Stonehaven, Skydas, and Taika.

Akstis was familiar with Morgur from the early days of Malaysia's following, where the two shared the same social circles before the maimed he-wolf fell to the wayside and chose the wrong side. Malaysia wished to keep tabs on her old friend, and after a brief consultation with the Alva herself, Akstis headed south with a new mission.
