JakobHansson — Only One Remains by-nc-nd

Description One night I had an image in my head just before I went to sleep. It was an ancient bridge crossing a gulf in a snowlandscape. I told myself that I should remember this image next morning. And when I got some time for a personal painting, I luckily remembered it again!
The story of the Monster and the Man (and his unlucky friends) was added during the painting process, when I felt the image would benefit from a bit of drama.

A couple of days work in total.

Photoshop, Wacom Intuos.

Edit: Based on some helpful viewer suggestions I added a few footsteps to show the path of the monster and a subtle atmospheric perspective to the image.

Reminds me of Lord of the Rings, the Silmarilion, when the great hero (whose name I forgot, think it was Beren) fought a huge wolf for a Silmaril (crystal) and lost his hand, but slew the wolf for the Silmaril later on, in a scenario much like this one. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
