out of all the maps, I think this one is your best. Where'd you get those epic folds?

I'm intrigued by how their Germanic kingdom survived a couple of decades in the lands of Carthage. It's rather mind-boggling.

They held more than a century I believe - came there 10 or 20 years before Γtius defeated Attila and held on until Belisarius crushed them.
basically, they were too strong to be beaten out unless an important force could be mustered, which meant things had to be quiet on the other fronts.
Also, since this part of Northern Africa grew the grain that fed Italy, they had a compelling argument - they could choose to sell or stock it as they pleased.
All the more since they grabbed Sicily as well.
I didn't know they had seized the Balearics though.

the best book I know on the subject is Peter Heather's The Fall of the Roman Empire, although it only covers as far as the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
They did conquer Sicily at some point ( actually I believe there were in some sort of a civil war when Belisarius violently happened around Carthage ) and I think ( though I'm not sure ) they seized Sardinia too, but I had never heard about they being in the Balearics; although it does make sense as a base to raid W Spain and SW France, like the Arabs would later
It doesn't look that anybody coud have prevented them from seizing those islands if they had wanted to, so it's likely enough that they did. And anyway it's cool XD
