Description Another one of my “have fun” pictures, this was a pretty quick black and white sketch done in Painter using Painter’s watercolors. As I liked the sketch enough, I added the figure colored it a little in Photoshop and the result is what you see above. All in all not more than 4 hours work involved, amazing how fast you can add color to a black and whit piece when you work digital just by playing around with hue and saturation in Photoshop……
Hope you like it

Oh that's some snazzy work Uwe, I'm diggin this. What I like about goofing around in those programs is that you may get to discover something new that you most likely wouldn't try on a commission - given that they tend to be rather important and all. Gotta love it. Then you get to later try them out on those commissions since you figured it all out

Yes it is soooooo much fun playing around with digital media, and as i want to do less commissions this year and learn more, other and new things it is just too cool to do pieces just the way i want to without having any art-descriptions to follow. I wouldn't do things like that in comissioned pieces as i don't think clients would expect something like this from me and would propably be disapointed. But in those free pieces I'm free to do what ever i want just for my own pleasure and hopfully those who look at it enjoy it too . Thanks for having a look at it my friend.

I very much like the mood of this piece, and the depth you achieve with just the pencil strokes. The golden color you
achieved in Photoshop lends it a nice dreamy atmosphere - which goes well with the floating figure.
I like the addition of what look to me like flower petals coming from her hands.

I can see your enjoyment of art come through in this piece.

Thanks for the comment, as for the flower petals, yes i added them at the end just to add some sparkles of another color to the piece, but to be honest i think they are pretty much out of composition , well at least they don't really make the piece better, maybe i better had left them out. But the more I'm glad you like them .

RetroZombie In reply to jarling-art [2006-01-27 02:07:26 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. I think I see what you mean. Imagining the piece without the petals, and then allowing myself to see the petals again - they do look a bit out of place.
So much for my first impression!
But there's still so much to love about this picture that the petals hardly matter.

Well, i love to try new or other things, it would bore me to death to do always the same things or to paint always the same style or subject matter. Would be the same as if i had to eat everyday pizza, ummm let me think about that, everyday pizza, well i could live with that - haha, no seriously, if i would paint the same way with each and every piece i do i sure would achieve something like a style, but it really would be very boring to me if i could not experiment with other techniques or styles. I know the goal of every artist should be to achieve an own style, so it seems I'm not really an artist as i really don't care about style, i just love it too much to explore new things, new techniques and different styles. Art is just too exiting to me to do the same thing over and over again, where would there be the fun???

I feel the same way, I change all the time but I think no matter what we do we keep our style. Although this piece was different I could still tell it was one of yours, so you see, you do have a style and believe me you ARE a real artist!!

I often do such quick pieces to loosen up a little while working on more complex work, but not all turn out as good as this, this is one of the less quick pieces i dared to post online . The fun thing is sometimes i like those quick pieces a lot more than my polished and refined work, think they sometimes just show more personality than pieces where you think about each and every brushstoke you do.

Clovenhoof In reply to jarling-art [2006-01-26 00:40:07 +0000 UTC]

In my opinion the "sketchy" qualities of a quick piece often looks a tad more alive than heavily worked paintings. Something with the drawing skills being more apparent. But I guess it's really up to where the paintings finally goes that decides what's best to get the job done (and deadlines, of course ).

This is really quite lovely, I like the forest scenery. The figure is drawn quite nicely, and draws everything together, I think. Ahh.. I like rich golds with vegetation. Go hue and saturation!

As for the little amount of time involved in this piece. I'm really pretty satified with the result. Thanks for the comment
