Orktober, I love me my orks, and i wanted to try to do a “artpeice for everyday” type challenge. Each day will have a new ork artpeice with some lore for ideas i’ve had for ork units.
Orktober 17th - STEAM DREAD
When a dreadmob gets larger and larger, becoming a massive waaagh, it will eventually be filled with many deffdreads. Since a deffdread is a massive cybernetically connected exoskeleton mech body for an ork boy, eventually a deffdredd will be filled with one of the many varieties of ork “oddboyz”. In time this unique deffdredd pilot gets more teef, then he will purchase a kustom dreadnought chassis to better fit their interests as an oddboy. Here is one of these “Odd Dreads”.
The clans of savage orks will eventually join much more technologically equipped ork waaaghs. These primitive greenskins will construct simple steam powered machines to join in the mechanized mayhem of the rest of the warband. If the ork mob is a dread waaagh then the savage boys will make their own steam powered deff dreads. These machines can't really walk, so instead they trundle into battle with wheels and treads. Their highest caliber weapons are black powder cannons loaded and fired by gretchen. Their melee weapons are mega choppas and wrecking balls. While the steam dread is easier to disable then a normal deff dread, they are kept running with a small crew of grot riggers.
