Shamanism is one of the most ancient and archaic belief structures. Shamanism is based on belief in the spirits of the surrounding world, nature, ancestors, and animals. Each nation had its own distinctive features of shamanism, although at its core it had much in common. It is now difficult to establish what exactly the Finnish shamans looked like, since historical engravings recorded only the Sami and Laplanders. But based on the surviving petroglyphs and painted shaman drums, we can assume that they could have used deer and elk antlers in their ritual clothing, since these animals are sacred in Finnish culture. Along with the elk, the bear (Otso), snake and the swan are also sacred animals, while the wolf is considered one of the guides of human souls and the main assistant of the shaman.
