maybe you are trying to hard with his eyes. the more you look at the more you will pick minute faults.just try this out. place the drawing standing up on a table and take a walk past it. have a casual glance and if it looks right than it is.

I think the iris of his left eye is slightly out of sync. If you look closely it looks a little too 3D and is slightly elongated out beyond the eye space. I could be wrong but that's all I can come up with. Also the right eye has no light hitting it, that might be a reason why they look slightly out of sync. As ever, and I am honest to God jumping up and down in my seat xoxox

That could be it. But when I submit the final completion of the picture, I will link the reference picture so that people can see where I got all the weird shadows from. xD

It was quite hard to draw from.

And thanks for your feedback.

FaeOfDoom [2009-04-18 17:14:06 +0000 UTC]

have you tried taking the reference (printing it out if necessary), folding it and putting it right next to the eyes to see how far off they are from the original?

maybe they're not that off...I can't see too much wrong with it this time. maybe it's just a quirky reference...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jasqreate In reply to FaeOfDoom [2009-04-19 04:51:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... I'm going to put the link of the picture on my artist's comments when I submit the final piece.

It was confusing to draw from, but I did my best, so that is all that matters.

Oh-My-God. That's.. BEYOND amazing. It's drawings like that that motivate me to work hard at portraits and profiles. That's just.... beautiful to the point its practically real. Excellent, EXCELLENT job!

I think his eyes are fine. If you watch an episode with any close up of him you will see that his eyes are not lined up perfectly. The only thing I see from the unfinished version is he is a little less clean shaven than that.

Jasqreate In reply to jldyr [2009-04-18 15:40:26 +0000 UTC]

Really? Maybe so... I just can't work out his eyes.

Yeah I've added more hair on his face after I submitted the picture up. But thanks for pointing that out if I need to do more.

Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it.

jldyr In reply to Jasqreate [2009-04-19 14:40:07 +0000 UTC]

I just looked at it, I think it is really well done. If you watch some of the seasons that he is in when he looks at someone his left eye twitches sometimes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jasqreate In reply to jldyr [2009-04-19 15:09:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much.

And yeah! His eyes are a bit funny, but I guess that makes him unique.

jldyr In reply to Jasqreate [2009-04-20 03:05:09 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I think he really added an interesting element to the Doctor Who character. Tennet said that he was impressed with the new doctor that they will be starting for season 6. Young guy, but a life long fan. So there's hope.

Oh really?

Who's going to star as the new Doctor Who now?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jldyr In reply to Jasqreate [2009-04-21 00:54:38 +0000 UTC]

A guy by the name of Matt Smith. He's 26 making him the youngest Doctor. You can see an interview with him on YouTube. What seasons have you seen so far?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jasqreate In reply to jldyr [2009-04-21 09:51:44 +0000 UTC]

Well, I've only seen the seasons with David Tennant and the doctor before him (forgot his name).

I wasn't aware of the series until the ninth doctor was in spotlight on TV and I got inspired by the show everyweek when it was on.

I'll check out the new doctor on Youtube when I have the time.

This looks very good, and I look forward to seeing the finished version. I think the 'eye problem' is in the left eye (his right), because it doesn't seem to be facing the right way.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jasqreate In reply to rorymac666 [2009-04-18 15:25:04 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.

Yeah... His eyes are really annoying me. It's the same from the reference picture, but it just looks weird when it's drawn in pencil.

I've finished it and placed a protective spray over it and the eye has only been edited a little bit... I hope it looks fine when I do post it up tomorrow.

But thanks for letting me know.

rorymac666 In reply to Jasqreate [2009-04-18 15:56:08 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean, although sometimes the ref pictures look normal, they don't transpose well when drawn, because of odd angles and shadows. They look wrong on paper because we question what we see in a drawing, but not in a photo.

Jasqreate In reply to rorymac666 [2009-04-18 16:08:40 +0000 UTC]

That's very true, and it can be annoying at times from what you want to draw.

But thanks anyway.

In-The-Distance [2009-04-18 11:25:37 +0000 UTC]

do you use a super sharp eraser?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jasqreate In reply to In-The-Distance [2009-04-18 11:30:47 +0000 UTC]

I use a putty eraser and smooth it out to a very thin, fine line.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

In-The-Distance In reply to Jasqreate [2009-04-18 11:35:52 +0000 UTC]

ah yeah that's what i imagined actually. though i can also imagine you cutting an eraser to a point

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jasqreate In reply to In-The-Distance [2009-04-18 11:40:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah very true.

I don't really like the thought of cutting up an eraser for some reason... It's like murdering an eraser.

Putty erasers are always reusable.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

In-The-Distance In reply to Jasqreate [2009-04-18 11:43:28 +0000 UTC]

hahah lol yeah that's true they're nicer when they're smooth and round. i wish putty erasers would work on coloured pencils but because i colour wayyy too dark and thick even a normal eraser can't rub it off XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jasqreate In reply to In-The-Distance [2009-04-18 11:50:07 +0000 UTC]

Really?

Oh yeah... Coloured pencils are much harder to rub off. Are Polychromos easier because the pigment is softer?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

In-The-Distance In reply to Jasqreate [2009-04-18 12:14:36 +0000 UTC]

ummmmmm nah, i don't think they're any easier to rub off. Though I have found that you can rub layers off and then colour over it to create a different colour - it's interesting, but i've never really had use for it. but yeah ,if you want something light you just have to not colour there
