Description The Rogell and Paesoss, a pair of Kiengoss class battlesubs cruise alongside the superheavy submersible battleship Vognoss, the lead ship of its class.

The Vognoss was designed for coastal bombardment and anti-aircraft saturation fire, along with over-the-horizon LRBM support. While the Vognoss was a potent surface combat vessel in of itself, it wasn't designed or tasked for submersible combat.

More on the Vognoss will come with it's "character sheet" picture. Enjoy!

How can ballistics work underwater? What is propelling the shells when the weapons are fired?

With that much stuff protruding out from the hull, there's gonna be so much flow noise from the water flowing over and around all the guns and what not on the superstructure that anyone with a functioning sonar within a few miles is going to be able to hear this thing. And being that hearing without being heard is the name of the game in submarine warfare, this thing better have a healthy complement of dedicated fast attack submarines in escort farther out, otherwise it is not long for this earth. All that's missing is a Submersible Aircraft Carrier.

It's an older piece of mine. I forget they're there sometimes!

Interesting and unusual design! I like the rounded forms.

Thank you, I figured they'd be more hydrodynamic.

super nice....is this just sketchup with fog effects or did you render it and/or use some photoshop? Really impressive!

Just some tweaking of the fog tool in sketchup. There was very little postwork done on this.

Everytime i see such impressive stuff my mind askes for the world this is existing in, i think a few facts would make a good round up for the pic

Simply awesome! I see A TON of follow tool here... which is tempting to go out and a quick one of these myself

Hmm...I used the follow tool to make the turrets and drive-rings, and that's about it.

Really! I would've figured the lower hull chunks, the pipes, the radar dome (on the fin) and so fourth would've been made with the follow tool

Wow, that's a truly impressive model!!

It reminds me a bit of the British M-class of subs, though - designed around a stonking big 305-mm gun: [link]

However, they emerged just as post-First World War disarmament treatire came into being, and just one was completed with a gun; no. 2 had its gun housing converted to an aircraft hangar, while no.3 became an experimental minelayer. Both M1 and M2 were sunk in accidents, though; M3 was unceremoniously scrapped after its trials were completed...

Thanks man! And yeah, I'm familiar with those boats, real designs would probably be a bit more streamlined than this.

kanyiko In reply to JazzLizard [2013-03-12 16:31:00 +0000 UTC]

... and slightly more lightweight, I assume. XD

Seeing those turrets makes me slightly queezy, only one cannon has to develop a fault - for instance, during routine maintenance - and they have a major flood on their hands. Given similar issues with torpedo tubes spelled the end of many a submarine - and most of those had just four or six to begin with - having a submarine 'battleship' with dozens of guns, if not over a hundred, would mean the risk is many times bigger something similar would happen...!!

Gad, I'd hate to be on the hydrophones when those things pass under. Neat concept, carefully executed.
