Description An exceptionally nerdy Forever 16 from May 31, 1992. Steve is a comic book geek, but he's not the obsessive-compulsive type who keeps his comics in mylar bags and stuff. However, the guy who owns the local comic book shop is one of those anal retentive freaks, and Steve quite enjoys heckling him for it. All that stuff about Captain America #400 is totally accurate, too.

I keep thinking of the comic store guy having the Voice of Danny DeVito for some reason

Wow! The guy who owned the comic book shop kinda resembles to Jeff Albertson, the Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons. 0.o

The guy who was currently running the comic store in my neck of the woods was on the same a-hole scale as this guy

Sure, it's not for sale and doesn't even want people breathing on it and yet he displays it on the counter in his shop. I think they do it on purpose, just hoping people give them an excuse to jump down their throats.

One day I'm going to write a Comic Book, and just put a few copies in Stock in Kevin Smith's store, for free

Ah, comic books.

Call me old fashion, but I'm not the kind of comic book geek who wants a "collection"; I want a literal library of all the issues of various series, one shots, and just comics in general that I'd ready one more than one occasion.

Collections are for attempts at keeping something in the hopes that it will grow in monetary value; libraries are for reading.

We had a guy like him in Pensacola. He couldn't understand it when he had to close his store because his business dropped off due to his rudeness to his customers.

This happen to that X Men comic too.

Sonic would win in a speed contest with Flash and Speedy.

So how would you make this new character different from Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons?

It was around this time that Calvin and Hobbes addressed the inflated comic book market:

"How will it be valuable if every kid in America owns five copies?"
"We're counting on the other guys' moms to throw them away."

If people had only listened to Watterson back then.

It's really hard to write a cranky comic shop owner that doesn't come across as a carbon copy of Comic Book Guy. So I don't plan to use this guy very much.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FireballDragon In reply to jbwarner86 [2012-08-08 19:32:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I can understand that... Maybe you should've subverted the trope by making the owner easy to approach and talk to, but still a massive nerd. Just a thought.

Zerozero204 In reply to FireballDragon [2012-08-08 21:09:35 +0000 UTC]

That _is_ easy to approach and talk to. Do any of the comic shops in your town have swords on the wall behind the counter?

Funny stuff. Is Hammerhead a real comic or is it an underground title Steve created?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jbwarner86 In reply to NeoPrankster [2012-08-08 19:31:04 +0000 UTC]

Just something Steve draws, depicting himself as a debonair super-spy. I tried to make it look hand-made, so it's not colored in and it's stapled kind of crooked.

NeoPrankster In reply to jbwarner86 [2012-08-08 19:48:39 +0000 UTC]

Steve's not the only one. Matt Groening hand-stapled his early Life in Hell comics when he worked at the Licorice Pizza music store in LA.

If the comic isn't for sale and part of his personal collection. Why would he showcase it in a store?

maxvision92 In reply to Doodley [2012-08-08 19:15:59 +0000 UTC]

Because that's how collectors were in the 90's. At least Cap wasn't besmirched with a stupid holo-foil.
