The Smash Ballot may be over, but the character support threads on Smashboards are still up and about. One of the threads is being run by a friend of mine, user Hoshi-no-Kaabii (referred to on Smashboards as "Iko MattOrr"), so I made a drawing specifically for it to show my support (plus, it's been almost forever since I drew Adeleine or anything Kirby related for that matter!)! Those of you watching me are already familiar with my personal redesign of Adeleine (or at least my long-time viewers are; I get new ones a lot these days), and my guess is that after a while Nintendo tends to update the visual appearance of older characters.I chose to use Comic Workshop 2 for this drawing, as I wanted to experiment with some of the tools in it and felt the background I wanted could be done more effectively on here than in MS Paint, my usual go to art program.
The images of Mario, Toon Link, Kirby and Pikachu may look a little fuzzy, but that's because I wanted to further the effect that Adeleine herself drew the pictures behind her.
Well, all of that aside, here's hoping this adorable artist makes it into Super Smash Bros. 4! She's got my full support!

Edit 2/6/2016: Welp, the final updates have been released recently, and sadly Adeleine did not become a DLC character... But, please show some support for her to become playable in the next game! (I know I'm updating this pretty late, but hey, stuff happens)
Edit 8/6/2023: Looking back on this again, it's a dang shame that this not only ended up not happening for Super Smash Bros. 4, but Ultimate as well...! Like jeez, can we have more Kirby characters in Smash please, it deserves to have much more representation!

Ah yes, I did learn that she was used as a mascot for that magazine. We had Nintendo Power in America, and early issues did have an art section, but they didn't use a mascot for it, and later issues didn't have the section. Of course NP's been discontinued since 2012, thanks to the Internet, but I remember the nostalgia of being excited for a new issue since back then, and reading their reviews helped give me a better sense of judging the quality of a game!

Nice. Adeleine is such an underrated character. She could be featured in the next SSB, but personally, I'm not sure I really feel she should be a playable character; she's just too obscure. I mean common, they can't just throw in every single Nintendo character in the history of ever. They have to draw a line somewhere...

Underrated, yes. Obscure, not so sure. Within the Kirby fandom at least, Adeleine is a very well-known character, and if DA is any indication, she is frequently drawn by the artists of the Kirby community. So I wouldn't exactly call her unknown, and fans did request her for SSB4.
But I get your point. There should be a limit to who gets in, but there are some characters even less qualified that got in anyway; I'm pretty sure almost nobody even considered Wii Fit Trainer a true character before they put her in the game.
But enough about that, I'm glad you like the drawing nonetheless!

Huh, I didn't realize there was so much fandom for her. Regardless, my point is that, as far as I know, she was just an NPC in one game... say, I'm curious: what about Ribbon the fairy? Does she get as much fandom? She's a cute character, and I totally ship her with Kirby.

Yep. And Ribbon is pretty popular as well; I'd say more than half of that popularity comes from the KirbyXRibbon ship, as she is the only character in the series to show an actual romantic interest in him (Chuchu also seems to have a thing for Kirby, but it didn't go nearly as far as it did with Kirby and Ribbon, the latter giving him a kiss on the cheek in the good ending of Kirby 64).

On another note, that first ending sure was a trip. I mean, people typically think of Kirby games as being all cute and kid friendly, but can you imagine the reaction from the little kids in the not-so-good ending, when the queen fairy giver Ribbon an evil look, then it goes straight to credits?! Everyone was like, "

Coincidence? I THINK NOT!! (Sorry, I had to reference that...)
But yeah, the bad ending is pretty ominous. Especially considering that according to the good ending, it's implied that Zero Two itself posessed the Ripple Star Queen. And based on how messed up it looks when a regular Dark Matter possesses King Dedede, I don't want to think about how Zero Two would attack while in control of the queen's body!
What's probably just as bad is that the second level of Ripple Star plays one of the creepiest video game songs I've ever heard. And the little ones have to play through it, as it can't be skipped!
Nintendo in general seems to present itself that way; on the surface, it's all cheerful and innocent, but as more experienced gamers have come to know, there is a dark and disturbing underside to nearly every series they've made!

Indeed, Kirby actually gets a bit edgy for a kids game with a cute outward appearance. But making it kind of edgy gives it more appeal to older gamers.
Indeed. Like "Majora's Mask" for instance. Sadly, I never played that particular Zelda game, but according to everything I've seen, heard, and read about, it's practically designed to gives kids nightmares. Another example is "Super Paper Mario." I haven't played all of the previous installments of the "Paper Mario" series, so I don't know how dark they get. I haven't actually beaten "Super Paper Mario," but I remember this particular disturbing encounter with the character "Mimi." At first she just seems like a cute girl. Then she turns out to be an evil brat that makes you her slave, but she's still not anything that would frighten young children... that is, untill she reveals her true form...

True. I have Super Paper Mario and completed it (multiple times; it's one of my favorites); trust me, Mimi's only the beginning of the disturbing stuff in that game!

True, I really wish they'd give Mario a speaking role in the games. Especially when Nintendo's shown they're fully capable of giving him fitting dialogue, according to a ten minute mock press conference for Mario Sports Mix, where Mario speaks in full sentences the entire time!
Supposedly, Mario had some lines in Super Mario Sunshine, but only in the Japanese version (interestingly, Mario speaks English in all regional versions of the games, evening retaining the same voice actor).

Huh... is that right? Interesting. Oddly enough, there's another game where Mario talks in full sentences; the Gameboy Advance game Mario Vs Donkey Kong. Which is Ironic, considering you don't usually see much voice acting in GBA games. Heck, even Nintendo DS games (I'm not talking about 3ds or 2ds, for all I know, voice acting may be more common in those. But I'm not sure because I don't have one.)

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that game actually! And yes, I think voice acting on handhelds didn't start becoming common untilthe Nintendo DS. Like how Sonic Rush and its sequel had an entire soundtrack full of lyrics (some harder to understand than others).

You'd think it'd have the second most number of reps (if not THE most overall), since Sakurai made both Kirby and Super Smash Bros. Though it's been said in the past he was afraid of going overboard with the Kirby characters, hopefully he's had a change of heart in recent times!

What an interesting redesign! In terms of the Smash Ballot, Adeleine is one of my top 3 (among Bandana Waddle Dee and any Rhythm Heaven representative), and out of those three, I decided to vote for her, because I felt Adeleine was the one that needed the most recognition. If she were to be chosen, this design would fit really well, I think. Also, that background is awesome! I like how painting-esque it is.
