Sometimes people ask me why I use such insanely meticulous and yet unnecessary measurements. The reason? Well, although I personally don't need to measure so incredibly carefully, it's not only extremely beneficial knowing the exact location (hence allowing me to make more accurate estimates), but because it's for your benefit as well.

I've seen a lot of tutorials that gave a nice explanation, but still forced me to estimate the distances and sizes. Those tutorials, while somewhat helpful, didn't allow me to improve my anatomy at all. I always wished there was some kind of exact comparison, some kind of exact tutorial, for me to use.

Now that I'm older and able to take measurements to myself, I used six different hands and studied them in order to come up with an approximate average. Although hands differ from person to person, understanding this approximate average would've helped me a lot in my earlier days. Since I can't find any tutorial with exact measurements, I can only make one myself

This is great! You've explained the proportions very well. I look forward to your other tutorials.

This is really intimidating to look at initially, but once you power through at start reading it and put it to action, this really helps you out a lot and it isn't so complicated thanks sooo much! cheers for looking out for the little guys out thereΒ

Just a note, Thigh gap does not have as much to do with weight of the individual as much as it has to do with the width of their hips. No matter how thin some people get they wont have a thigh gap do to have much narrower hips.

Thank you for finally saying this. I see in so many tutorials for drawing the female figure that they always have the 'thigh gaps' and it's annoying. I have plenty of friends who are thinner and you will never it on them LOL I still will never understand the obsession with a thigh gap.

Very cool!
Do you do tutorial request? I have one and it's hard to find them.

I do tutorial requests as long as it pertains to my style and interests

Well, do you think you can do breast physics in you style? It's hard to find tutorials on those, and I don't want to start going into drawing females in action if they look weird.
It's ok if you say no.

I've been planning a breast physics tutorial but as you can imagine it's a very difficult subject. It will be next on my list.

Thank you for your support.

I'm not an architect, just an 18 year old self taught artist hoping to improve myself! My tutorials are actually just the notes that I take when I study something.

Yeah, I just have difficulty with the way the legs join up to the body. And butts. I find butts hard. But I think your tutorial will help.

Perhaps you'll be interested to hear that I already made a tutorial that perfectly addresses your issue.

I have three other tutorials that are already complete, and working on another new tutorial concerning the head, but I'm waiting two to three days between each submission to avoid overflowing groups.

These tutorials are:
Arms and how they connect to the shoulder/hand
Legs and how they connect to the hips/butt/foot
and Hair coloration.

Stay tuned

This is cool!

So for Line D...is it typically above A->B->A, like the red pen says, or above A->B->B like the writing says? (...or is it a matter of preference, based on the body type you are after?)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jeffoffo In reply to 3doutlaw [2012-06-25 20:32:46 +0000 UTC]

Ah I suppose I didn't clear that part well enough.
If you look closely, the red pen points out part D at the same place as the writing. It's above the lower A, and both B's. Line D is in the middle of the first part A. However, in order to get line D, you'd need to have B.

JDB-Inks [2012-06-25 18:08:01 +0000 UTC]

B is a rectangle with a Width 5/8 of A. Should this not be with a 'Height' 5/8 of A? Otherwise Awesome tut!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jeffoffo In reply to JDB-Inks [2012-06-25 18:27:56 +0000 UTC]

Haha you can take both since A is a square!
But now that you pointed it out, it's gonna bug me forever.

Cannot be unseen

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JDB-Inks In reply to jeffoffo [2012-06-25 19:08:33 +0000 UTC]

hehe sorry bout that! And this too: You cant take both coz we are trying to find the Height of B, Not A.

What I mean is A is a Square with Equal Length Sides, this is true but you tell us the 'Width' of B (rectangle) is 5/8 of A - but it's not, the Width of B is the same as the Width/Height of A.
The Height of B (shorter sides of the rectangle) are 5/8 of A - you wrote Width instead of Height Sorry!

hohohoh another alternative method to draw nice.

hmm usually typical manga tutorials use "8" rule for female body.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jeffoffo In reply to Stealthflanker [2012-06-25 14:39:50 +0000 UTC]

The heads-tall rule isn't actually a rule itself, but an estimate.

You can make a person look taller or shorter by decreasing the height in comparison to the head.
3 heads = child/toddler
4 heads = adolescent
5 heads = preteen/early teen
6 heads = late teen
7 heads = pre-adult
7.5 heads = adult
8 heads = tall adult
8.5 heads or more = very tall adult.
