Description Just trying out a different painting style; can't ever go wrong with The Legend of Zelda.

*SPOILERS*
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

(MAJOR Spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds)
The Hero of Lorule is quite possibly my favorite Zelda character in the entire series.
He calls himself a coward, but he's courageous in his own way.  But even more than that, he is an entity unto himself, with a unique personality and major role in the series.  I know there's a lot of theories going around about what Virtues make up the Lorule Triforce.
I don't think it's an inversion of Hyrule's Triforce at all. Rather, it seems to have been rotated.

Ravio's defining trait is not courage, but he does not LACK it, despite what he claims.  Nor is wisdom, or the lack thereof, Hilda's defining trait.  Nor is power, or the lack thereof, a defining trait for Yuga.

In fact, I would say Ravio's greatest Virtue is his wisdom. Hilda is power. Yuga is courage.
Not only do they exemplify the traits in the story, but their actions mirror those of the Hylian counterparts possessing those Virtues.

Ravio, like Zelda, fled into hiding because he knew he was not strong enough to thwart the villains outright. Instead, he disguises himself, seeks out the Hero, and guides and prepares the hero for the task ahead, making sure he has available all the tools that he needs to succeed, all the while keeping his motives and identity ambiguous.   He is the hero's guide, and just as frustrating a guide as Sheik was.  And, like Sheik, does not reveal himself until the very end, much to the surprise of Link and the player.

Ravio: "There was no way that I had the courage to stand up to you and Yuga. But I was smart enough to go to Hyrule."

Hilda, in contrast, enacts a plan nearly identical to Ganondorf's in the past.  Desperate to do what was best for her people, who lived in a withered and dying land outside of Hyrule, decides that the best option is to seize the Triforce herself and use it to save them.  She posesses power great enough to match Ganondorf's, holding him prisoner with her magic at a stalemate that lasts the entire duration of the game.  Like Ganondorf, rather than seek aid, or find a third option, she believes that using the Triforce, taking it by force if necessary, is the best or only option.  Like Ganondorf, she was a villain who began as a well intentioned extremist.

Yuga, like Link in countless incarnations, is directed by his princess to embark on a dangerous quest, alone, to seek out the seven sages to achieve a greater goal.  He is confident and bold, using his guile and unique abilities, rather than brute force, to accomplish this goal.  He is not powerful, but he is persistent and knows not to leave anything up to chance.  He would have succeeded in stopping Link in their first encounter if not for Ravio's foresight in giving Link the bracelet.

Mind you, this is only a theory since nothing has ever been confirmed in canon.  But it's something worth considering, if nothing else.  Keep in mind that if Lorule's Triforce was made up of negative traits to oppose Hyrule's, it would have never been an artifact worth fighting for in the first place.

Ravio and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds are (c) Nintendo.

He looks so handsome! <3
hmm... I wonder if anyone's done a fanfic about the Lorule and Hyrule counterparts pairing up? Zelda x Ravio, Link x Yuga, Ganon x Hilda ?
Dangit if it was a good enough, long enough read I'd buy it. Unless buying it would get me arrested, then I'd just be very hush-hush. Or print it out, bind it, and cherish it <3

I love your investigative work into piecing together what each of the characters represent as far as the triune pieces between courage, power, and wisdom.  I think that sounds like the most logical conclusion, since you are quoting from the game (Ravio) dialogue itself.  I DO believe Ravio is the representation of wisdom with a line like that - and YES, Hilda's taking Hyrule's Triforce by seizure of force seems more Ganondorf-like then something Zelda in her wisdom would do to solve the any similar problem of such in Hyrule.
I know it's not canon, but it sounds like the most logical symmetry between the two worlds of Hyrule and Lorule.

I've heard this theory but never as Yuga having courage and Hilda power.  But it makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, it's not super obvious at first.  Especially because I think the gut reaction for a lot of people would be "Yuga!? Ew, he and Link have NOTHING in common."   Which is... generally true, I suppose, but they fell into the same ROLES in their respective stories.

I didn't notice until you pointed it out that they do have similar roles.  Strange.

...Oh gosh I think I kinda had a moment there X'D I absolutely love your theory on what part of the Triforce the three of them represent. I'd had it in mind before, but you've only solidified it more > u<

And for the picture itself... I absolutely love it XD He seems to be older, like maybe around OOT Link's age? XD But still a definite fave for me~

I'm glad I'm not the only one!  Thank you!

And yeah, I figured he'd be older here, maybe going on adventures of his own after a little of Mr Hero's courage rubbed off on him.

You're very welcome! ^^

And heee I can see that > u< I had an interesting idea though... It's essentially because of Ravio that all this even happened. Had he not gotten him out of the Sanctuary and given him the bracelet... The Loruleans wouldn't have their Triforce back. So... despite them being friends... X'D I had the idea that maybe Ravio develops some slight angst at not getting any credit? -shruuuug- I dunno |D

Ahhhhh that means a lot to me!  Thank YOU.  I'm glad I was able to broaden your horizons a bit!  Honestly, that's one reason I like to share my art and theories- simply to share them.  Because sometimes other people doing the same thing will lead to me discovering something I really really love, you know?  So thank you, and thank you for taking the time to share that with me! <3

I actually thought that about Ravio too--that he embodies wisdom rather than courage. Hilda as representative of power makes sense. At first I didn't understand how Yuga came to be courage, but after reading your description it makes a little more sense.

This is an awesome picture of Ravio, by the way. He looks positively handsome!

Aha, I'm glad I'm not the only one!   And he really is brave in his own way, too.  A true coward would have just ran away to Hyrule and kept to himself, or found a corner of Lorule to hide in until the plan went through. Ravio did what he could to set things right, especially at the end. But it's definitely not his defining trait, compared to wisdom.   Yeah, Yuga as courage is a bit of a stretch until you analyze not just the personalities but also their ROLES in the story.  Going on personality alone, there's a lot less to work with.

Thank you, I'm glad you like how he turned out! <3

He doesn't slay monsters and bad guys with swords but he does use his wise words to help Hilda see the error of her ways.

I love Ravio. He's one of my favorites too. I was in love with him when I still thought he was a Nabbit with his bird. x3

Yeah, I was really drawn to him, possibly because he and Irene are probably the closest things to a companion that Link gets in the game.  There's no Navi or Midna this time around, so instead we have Ravio always waiting for us to come home, asking about our adventure and generally bringing some lightheartedness into a dark, grueling, lonely quest.

That's a really cool theory. I also like your color choices, it's not as bright as how Ravio normally presents himself in the game but it still suits him.

Thank you!  I'm sure I'm not the first person to come up with it, given how large the fandom is, but the game is only a year old.
I went with a more drab palette, partly to distinguish Ravio from Vio and give a more serious feel to the piece.  Though, he could now possibly be mistaken for a Dark Link ahahaha.   Still, given how dark Lorule is, it's fun to play around with colors and ideas. I'm glad you like it!

Ah, thank you!  I'm probably not the only one who has thought of it, given that I've arrived at this conclusion less than a week after playing the game for the first time hahaha.  But oh gosh there is so much to love about the game.  I'm glad you like it!
