Description
Final Project for Senior Studio, an exploration of how we consciously or subconsciously associate sin with femininity, demonizing women in the process. The seven deadly sins as various mythological monsters (however I purposefully removed all the fantastical bits because, in fact she is just a woman, not something to be feared).
Medusa, powerful monster condemned to live alone until her murder because her gaze turned men into stone.

Nice use of illumination here ! Not to quibble, but wasn't Medusa suppose to be ugly ? Hence her ability to turn men to stone ? Otherwise, I love this piece.

That's not the half of it! As mythology has it, she was cursed by Athena (a virgin goddess) to be a gorgon because she had sex within Athena's temple (fear of female sexuality). Furthurmore, according to the story, she was 'overwhelmed' by Posiden (ie raped, if one is to use straightforward language), and somehow that was reason enough to punish her.
This is a great illustration - I love the golden green glow of the skin....Your gallery is very enoyable. The work is beautiful, and the themes are interesting and refreshing in a world that seems to want to pretend these issues don't still exist.
