Another Character of the Week (CHOW) challenge... #138, Elizabeth Bathory, the Blood Countess. If you don't know who she is, read up! She is fascinating:[link]
My original painting of this one got corrupted by the bluescreen-a-day old computer, so I've had to scramble to finish on time, and it shows. I totally want to go back and rework this one again, but I like the countess herself. This was also one of my early attempts at getting environment/background involved in my character pieces.

I love the two background characters (the girl smirking and reading over the Countess' shoulder and the dead girl under the table). The detail on her coat is beautiful! You did a great job keeping her both regal and creepy! (Bloody fingers were a great touch, too)

I always found Elizabeth Bathory so morbidly fascinating. I find her to be most incredible and horrifying villain in all of the past history. And the fact that is real is much more scarier. You did wonderful job in drawing her and giving her that threatening aura. Very well done. Kudos for you.

Bathory was insane, facinating, but insane. My sister is actually attempting to write a historical fiction around her. This is gorgeous, I immediately, before I even read your description, knew this had to be Bathory!

She was the scariest bitch to ever walk the Earth and you have depicted her stunningly. I love the creepy little maid servant in the background, it's a nice touch. I really like that she's writing in her famous journal and how you kind of have to pay attention to see the dead body under her table. Her expression is a little too serene, but then she was a psycho. Great job.

I actually know who she is. She was a very interesting woman. If she had been trialed in this day and age, she would have be ruled for criminally insane. Though the interesting thing here is I learned about her in an animated show of Hellboy. She was more vampiric in the show and supernatural.

I quite like the contrast between the rough, heavily textured background and the smooth, well-finished Lady herself. Works quite effectively. Great piece!

oh... that's dark. I like the dark work that isn't overly gory. you leave a sense of mystery to the piece by adding the hand. great light and color.

Heh, one of my favorite songs by a band called "Darkwell" is actually about this girl, and I had read about her a few years ago in a book I bought about Werewolves (which didn't make much sense to me, because you'd figure it would be more vampire related if anything) but it was an interesting story none the less, can't believe something crazy like that actually happened.
ANYWAY, I started watching back in about 2005 or 2006 when I came across some fairy and witch stuff in your gallery, and that stuff was really good, but this new stuff is.. it's just amazing to me.

I agree, a most fascinating creature, the Countess, and you've more than done her justice here (although she did, initially, put me in mind of Elvira)
