By the fifth day, Captain Faisal clearly had enough. Fed up by chasing sensor ghosts and the extended patrols that went nowhere. He immediately called up his counterpart on the USS Typhoon, with the hopes of hatching a plan to catch the damn Romulans flat footed. While Starbase 575's communication suite was state of the art, its integrated Tachyon Grid seemed like an afterthought. Woefully inadequate in pinging a typical Romulan Raptor Class. Adding to our worries, Sub-Commander Nancius' propaganda broadcasts continued to nauseate the crew even further. Ranting about the Starfleet devils who dared encroach so close to "sacred" ancestral ground. Additionally boasting that a flotilla of Venator Class battleships were on their way to lay waste on any opposition, oh boy.

The game with the overzealous Raptors continued, encircling the base like hungry vultures. Decloaking and cloaking again just to mess with our ships. The usual warning shots were exchanged, with Nancius relishing in the whole scenario. His cruiser personally swooped so close that you could see the smug centurions laughing at us. All "fun and games" - until a stray Romulan torpedo hit a little too close to home, knocking power off four decks on the Starbase - causing fatalities. Slamming his fist, Faisal was having none of it, and ordered the Sun Tzu and Typhoon to blast the nearest cruiser to kingdom come. Realizing their mistake, the Romulans were in a frenzy - Nancius himself denying any wrong doing and had to nerve to pin it on us.

But the gloves were finally off. The Sun Tzu's makeshift mods to network the Tachyon Grid improved detection resolution three-fold. We finally had a good bead on the damn birds and Nancius was none the wiser. I'm sure everyone and especially the captain was eager to see what this fancy prototype could really do. Weapons free indeed.
