This is an excellent picture. I like how all the kittens seem to be waking up, and how the cup looks more in focus than the background. It seems as though all the pots and such on the counter make it seem more colorful instead of just the kittens bringing in the color. They all seem to be doing a kitten-pile, it makes me wanna pet them. >w<
The color mixture is very nice. The orange in the kitten on the right brings the gray together with the entire thing. (: All in all, I love it. Fantastic picture, good work. Keep up the cute pics!

A very good use of color as there is always a mix of orange and brown somewhere in the photo that allows you to maintain balance. The contrasting color of the (granite?) counter top helps to give the bottom of the photograph said balance against the blue tint of the windows.
There is a mix of all the dominant colors in the center of the photograph which, aside from blur and the subjects being portrayed, really serves to draw the viewer in. I noticed that although the strongest color that I take from this picture is orange, the very center of the photograph is mostly white and grey.
The blur on the background is very well done, with the bowl in the foreground the blurred kitchen subtly adds support the setting of the photograph without overpowering the main subject with and strong lines or contrasting colors. The bowl is made up of light creamy colors that compliment the darker orange background provided by the kitchen, and bring photograph's setting into focus. It almost seems to me like bowl is serving as a means to bring the darker blurred background into focus with a focused and lighter annex.
That being said I think that a black and white kitten could have created some interesting perks, as well I agree with lilit's criticism regarding the border. In total, I really enjoyed this piece, and evaluating it.

I really like this picture. The kittens have that look of just waking up about them, and yet still manage to seem awake and active. You did manage to capture that feel of early morning light, altogether an excellent photo.
The one thing that detracts from this picture for me is the drop shadow border. I think a solid white border, with perhaps a thin black border around the main image, would have served it much better. The drop shadow feels a bit off in comparison to the crispness and freshness of the image.
I look forward to more of your work, which I am off to examine presently.

If only mornings were as cute this. With that said, I have to say this is a very endearing photo that you have shared with us, not to mention an overall lovely idea.
The way the kittens are sitting in the cup, with the kitten on the very right just hanging over, kind of reminds me of coffee in a cup overflowing or an ice cream stacked quite high, melting a little down the side.
While I find most similar subjects look good against a nicely blurred background, I think the focus in this works ever so well. The fact that you can still slightly make out the kitchen really gives a sense of breakfast time.
The colours, clarity and and focus look wonderful and really help to make this a very well taken photo. As for the composition, I think it's almost spot on except for the fact that there doesn't seem to be enough space at the bottom of the cup. I think just a little more inclusion of the surface, although not too much, would balance the top out a little more and make the bottom half of the photo appear less "tight" as it currently is.
If I could give one more suggestion, it would be to just have a plain white border around the photo and take away the drop shadow. I tend to feel that drop shadows on photos look more distracting and less professional, whereas just a simple plain border complements a photo.
A lovely taken shot and a wonderful concept to go with it. Excellent!

I enjoy how the colours of the cats goes with the colours of the cabinets in the background, and the bowl pulls all of that together well. It's interesting how the center cat's head is aligned so well with the center of the cabinets, so it the photo appears to have almost a sort of symmetry with only the small cat falling off the right setting it slightly off, giving it a more natural look.
The idea was an interesting one: four animals considered small for what they are, inside of a cup considered large for what it is. Together they give the impression that the cup and the cats are both normal-sized and a person could almost believe that you are, in fact, setting down to a breakfast of cats.

This picture is SO adorable. I can't even explain in words. I picked this cute shot right off the front page it was so cute. I love cats so this shot required a critique from me of course!
First off, the vision. The fact that you were able to catch these cuties in such a moment as this shows true photographic skill. Their paws are so big they almost look like mittens! The kitten second from the left has his paw around the far left kitten's shoulder and that just made the shot for me!
In terms of originality, the whole "kitten in a cup" thing is a tad clichΓ©, but the "multiple kittens in a cup" thing added a twist of originality to the shot. The fact that they all even fit in there together is extremely cute.
Next, your photographic technique is absolutely flawless, with the creative use of a combination of a full-frame camera and a large-aperture telephoto lens created creamy narrow bokeh perfect for this shot. The shallow depth of field really draws the attention to the subject and the placement of the leftmost kitten in the upper-left quadrant of the Rule of Thirds grid really shows great ability to visually divide your viewfinder into a "photographic canvas" if you will. Your eye is led into the photograph through the narrow DOF, the left kitten, eventually following its head onto the other kittens, ending at the one precariously hanging off the edge! The detail in the fur is tack sharp, and for such a wide aperture and a full-frame Canon EOS 5D, the focus is spot on. Well done!
The impact was very well done, the cuteness definitely "clawed" at me for attention! This baby was the first picture on the front page that I decided to critique, it shows great natural ability to create photographs that really make you want to have a good long look at it. The soft, warm, muted color pallette used here is the icing on the cake!
This shot is an absolute gem, and you should treasure it for a very long time, as will I! I cannot seem to find one thing wrong with this shot. I have many cats myself and definitely think this shot will inspire me to photograph my own cats in funny situations as this one...perhaps a cat on a fence or something? Kudos to you Γmer, for capturing the beauty of this moment in all its grandeur! I am proud to have critiqued this work of art.

LOL! This is SO cute! This reminds me of a little kitten I had way back in the 90's. Her favorite napping place was in a little china tea cup that was the only thing small enough for them to drink from when her and her siblings was just starting to ween away from mama. After the first time they empty it and she curled up in it I left it there for her and she would curl up in it to nap. It was so cute. I use to have a photo of it but it was lost a long time ago. Later, whe she got o big for it she would curl up in one of my shoes.

Typical kitten behavior: find the smallest possible thing to sleep in and pile on. It happens with farm cats too, you always just find them cramming into things that shouldn't be comfy.
