This reminds me very strongly of the dream sequences in H.P. Lovecraft's "The Rats in The Walls." Very nicely done.

A person is smart, people are stupid. It is an unfortunate fact of society. It doesn't matter where you live.

this is quality, it has the feel of an aquaprint/ink plate picture. very H.R. Giger

Thanks. I wasn't aiming very high when I started this - it was well after midnight, I'd been drinking, was fed up with Photoshop and decided to go old school again. Working on it was very cathartic and it turned out better than expected - you're looking at about eight hours of ball point pen and watercolour here.

I can't help but be reminded of a certain H.P. Lovecraft story when I see this picture...but I can't seem to remember which one it is! I know it wasn't Dreams In The Witch-House, but it was in the same vein...ah! It was The Rats In The Walls! Was that story an inspiration here?

I'm a huge Lovecraft fan, and this image owes a bit to the dream sequence in "The Rats in the Walls," though the real inspiration came from some dramas I went through a long time ago. I did a lot of similar stuff in 2003 that dealt with religious and political subjects I've mostly stayed away from since.

Ah, I thought I sensed a similarity there.

Sadly, nobody EVER thinks they're following someone else blindly, no matter what they eat up.
Besides the meaning here though, I love your designs for these floppy, flabby little mutant sheople.

ugh!
Those lil things (or whatcha may title as the 'Sheep')
has got to be THE CREEPIEST STUFF I'VE EVER SEEN YOU ILLUSTRATE OUT OF EVERYTHING YOU'VE CREATED SO FAR.
and that's really a fuckin huge statement cuz you really have drawn up so many strange pieces, but Just lookin at these little things crawl over eachother with them extremely horrid face expressions just really makes me feel a bit too uncomfortable and weirded out.
the shepherd and the background look really good, but those strange sheep people at the bottom really does it for me and nearly terrifies me inside.

Well-executed illustration.

"Of all the means I know to lead men, the most effectual is a concealed mystery. The hankering of the mind is irresistible; and if once a man has taken it into his head that there is a mystery in a thing, it is impossible to get it out, either by argument or experience. And then, we can so change notions by merely changing a word. What more contemptible than fanaticism; but call it enthusiasm; then add the little word noble, and you may lead him over the world. Nor are we, in these bright days, a bit better than our fathers, who found the pardon of their sins mysteriously contained in a much greater sin, viz. leaving their family, and going barefooted to Rome."-(Spartacus)
