Description
This is a painting of Joel’s Daughter Sarah from the Sony PlayStation Game The Last of Us.I have painted the scene where Sarah has just died in her father’s arms, after ironically being shot by the same soldier who’s just saved them. I wanted to show the life leaving her blank eyes and poor Joel with his eyes closed, grieving silently and without care to what’s happening around him.

That was the most heart aching scene, or one of the most heart aching scenes in the game. This drawing looks so realistic, like it came right from the game. Well done, it brought tears to my eyes!

When I originally saw the scene happen in the game I wasn't crying though it felt like something hit my heart. Later on when he's older and having to take another girl under his protection well it certainly got to one's feelings too.

Thank you so much for your beautiful comment. I haven't played the game but somebody requested if I could paint Sarah. I'd watched the dying scene from YouTube and got the references from there (as I didn't know who Sarah was or what Sarah looked liked). The scene was such a sad one and I watch it so many times (it made my 7 year old daughter cry) so I could gets the ideas of how to actually paint the picture and the emotions. I'd closed Joel's eyes to show him grieving, I painted the emptiness in Sarah's eyes to show that she had just died. I used my daughter to model the ears and fingers properly, left out all the jewellery and Joel's watch to make the painting simple so you focus on Sarah. Added shadows where they should be to as in the game, they were missing and made her hair real and added hair on Joel's chest, hands and arms, textures and many other things... to hopefully create a 'real' painting from a computer game.
