What a neat interpretation of the Horsehead Nebula! Beautiful, and such a creative thing to do with the reference! WOOT!
You use those Prismacolor markers masterfully. I need to get some next year, definitely... sometime late in the year maybe, and start learning these techniques. One more inbetweener connecting wet media and dry media... right now I'm still exploring colored pencil variations having gotten lots of watercolor pencils, weirdness like Col-Erase and Verithins and Art Stix and pastel pencils.

Yeah, they are a bit expensive. I won't be paying retail, I'll get a set at Blick when I finally get around to it. More like about $2 each at Blick, but still pretty hefty. I've never done much marker art so that's going to be boldly going where I've never gone when I do. But I hear they mix well and so something like 24 colors could be going very far with mixing. I'd like to try underpainting Prismacolors with them.
Yeesh there's no way I even want to try Copics. Not. That's just so not me.

Wow.... this really blows me away. You made fantastic use of markers... how do you get that sort of washed out effect you used to layer the black with the otehr colors?

Ohhh this is beautiful. Every time I see a photo of the horsehead nebula, I always think how awesome it would be to do a good artistic rendition of it, bringing out the figure....and hey look, you've done it spectacularly. I love the radiance you've given this; now that digital art is so popular, you see people taking shortcuts with certain things, and it's refreshing to see real-media glowing effects on things like stars. Also, the balance of light & dark and the shape of the nebula itself gives it a unique atmosphere, sitting right between chaos and tranqulity.
As always, gorgeous work. I worship you.
((Sorry if this posts repeatedly, my computer is being difficult.))
