Description UPDATE, March 10, 2013: Uploaded new file with current watermarks.

I have included a black border to denote this piece's 'museum' status.

Down in the park
Where the machmen
Meet the machines
And play 'kill-by-numbers'
Down in the park
With a friend called 'five'

I was in a car crash
Or was it the war
But I've never been
Quite the same
Little white lies
Like I was there

Come to 'Zom-Zoms'
A place to eat
Like it was built
In one day.
You can watch the humans
Trying to run

Oh look
There's a rape machine
I'd go outside
If he'd look the other way
You wouldn't believe
The things they do

Down in the park
Where the chant is
'Death, death, death'
Until the sun cries morning
Down in the park
With friends of mine

'We are not lovers
We are not
Romantics
We are here to serve you'
A different face
But the words never change

Lyrics © Gary Numan / Tubeway Army.

Paranoid's mind is an ever-escalating down-spiral into madness.

I love the detail, the inking. The composition and the way everything seems to be drawn together by the curve of the tree and the opposite edge. Not to mention the small detail work of the writing in the background, the woman on the bench, the talon. The dirty, broken, haunting quality of the picture is astounding.

It reminds me of certain stories by an author by the name of Charles de Lint.

The picture is truely wonderful, I love how the different things in the picture seem somehow distant and yet connected in their haunting way. And I love the roots and the snake and.....all of it. I could name it all but you already know what's in it; you drew it after all. ^-^

Keep it up!

Thank you so much! I love building images around trees; they're so iconic and graceful, but can also be twisted, stunted, gruesome. The figure on the bench is actually male, but his effeminate appearance is symbolic is some aspects.

I love your observation of how the pieces of the puzzle are connected yet distant.... They have a certain important proximity yet are all estranged.

Thanks again! I'm do glad you enjoyed this picture.

Oh of course!

^^ I am one, as well, to wait that long to comment. I had to go back and look at the picture before I replied.

That's very kind of you! My work hasn't been featured, though I take a bit of pride in my relative obscurity. It would be really unexpected and neat if my work was featured, though.

Wow, this reminds me of a FFX fayth in a way. The tree and the dragon head and the dog make this truly complete. I love this kind of thing. Fav! YAY!

Oh, I adore the Fayth artwork for FFX! I like your comparison - the Fayth designs are always so intricate. Thank you, Kekan!

Wow. This has to become a print. This is one of those prints you buy and hang by your desk and stare at for hours when the story ideas are running slow and you want a good procrastination... you've outdone yourself on this one. Your techniques improve by vast leaps all the time! WOOT!

Madness poured out in ink. Elegantly.

*very late reply* I need to reply to my comments more quickly, hehe.

Thanks as always, Robert! I'd love to make this into a print; that's something I'll experiment with soon, but I want to make sure I have the proper aspect ratio for different print sizes.

Paranoid's deteriorating mindset is so much fun to illustrate!

Oh, don't worry about late replies. I do that all the time too, especially if I get backed up for a while. They're always still interesting when you do reply and I don't feel as bad for not getting online consistently.

Oooh yes, Paranoid's deteriorating mindset is so much fun to see and read about too. I love Paranoid. He is so lovable despite all the weirdness, deep down he's a good dog and a loving dog, that is so neat.

Thank you! My character in this drawing, Paranoid, has since lost his little flip of hair, but it worked to help show movement in this drawing, I suppose.

That is really really cool! The detail, the tree, the dpg, it's all so detailed and cool. It looks like a book illustration for those creepy children's books that are too creepy for kids

What did you use to draw this?

Thank you so much! Sun Cries Morning was sketched in pencil on sketchbook paper, then inked with various Micron pens. I'd love to design creepy children's books, but for now my focus is developing my main story into a graphic novel.

Oh my god... I have been staring at this for hours, and it still blows me away. First of all, Paranoid's pose is so distorted and tangible awesome. The stippling on his fur is very well done. And that gnarled tree... the ridges and curls and patterns look real and alive. I also love the woman's hair and that snake.... and there are a million other little things... oh wow. This is so beautiful. Definitely a fav <3

Holy crap! Let's just say that this is freaking impressive. Like, fall-out-of-your-chair-and-squeal impressive.

What does all of it mean, yo? I recognize the fellow in the middle, he's from your story, right? But like, there's so much symbolism!!

*is the Late Reply Monger* Sometimes I think I must be rather obnoxious.

Thanks as always, Moonie! Typically, I don't think about the symbolism I add to these drawings while I'm drawing them, but I just came up with an idea in my late reply to ~wolfskin24 's comment - the areas of white space are representative of Paranoid's desire to flee to a 'noiseless' world, one where he can relax and drown his altered states of mind until they return to normal. Paranoid's head is full of noise, not just with sounds but with images. I think that's the gist with this drawing.

Holy shit. Jill, you are my HERO!! ^________________^ That makes m want to draw something that cool, but I know it would take me YEARS to finnish and it wouldn't look that totally awsome.

The line "Sun cries morning" gave me an idea too. ^_^ Thats such a pretty song.

*insanely late reply* XD

Now that you've been to CSSSA (and are going again - congrats!), I bet it wouldn't take you long to make a massively detailed ink piece. You keep getting better with each new drawing!

Say, have you ever heard this song in person before? VERY evocative, full of dystopian imagery. Perfect for Paranoid and Brainsick in general.

wolfskin24 [2005-11-24 01:42:11 +0000 UTC]

Wait, wait, do you know what time it is? That's right....it's time for me to be totally blown away by the magic you can make with ink drawings!

Another step down into Paranoid's madness, I see. The detail and texture of this is amazing. I could seriously sit here and stare at this for hours before I even came close to seeing everything there was to see. I especially love your use of white space--it guides the eye along through the important elements and gives it a more polished look. I also love the way that Paranoid seems to be shaded/inked differently from the rest of it--his 'grit' or texture is a little different, which is so subtle you hardly notice it, except for the fact that he seems just slightly different from the rest of it, so he sort of pops out more.

Also....I see stippling How's your hand?

God this is just amazing. I continue to worship you daily.

JillianLambertArt In reply to wolfskin24 [2007-06-18 07:19:09 +0000 UTC]

*queen of late replies* Hopefully these aren't annoying my friends.

Thank you so much as always! I truly cherish your comments. Indeed, a big step down into Paranoid's deteriorating mind. (Recently, I've come up with even stranger hallucination scenarios for the poor pup.) The white space could be symbolic of Paranoid's desire for a 'noiseless' world, one with no excitement or danger, something he could escape to - if only for a few minutes - to ease the distress he experiences so frequently.

(Who knows, maybe these late replies will kick my writing muse back into gear.)

I think my hand was actually okay after finishing the stippled areas. Since this drawing, I have learned that it is best to use the 08 Micron (if using Microns only) for stippling: faster coverage. (Or it could depend on one's taste, but I'll refrain from rambling further.) *grin*
