End flashback sequence. ^_^
To be fair, some of you have correctly predicted the reason for Maria and Gavin’s “relationship”. Others of you, probably just read the character bios. The rest of you might be surprised… or not? It’s not exactly the most complex logic ever…
Artistic notes: the first panel was a bitch to draw (and I’m still not totally happy with it), but I’m generally pleased with it. Also, I really like drawing Debbie (the spectacled girl in panel 3) for some reason; I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I think it’s just that she’s so different from the other characters in design, that it makes her fun to draw. The second to last panel is also quite noteworthy. The “Maria Raspberry” and especially the “Happy Gavin” faces crack me up.

I love your comic! Been going back through these first ones to just re-experience it. The idea of just going through the motions and that it'll "fix" you seems to run rampant in the LGBT community, everyone seems to think it and everyone that does eventually realizes what a fool they've been. Heck I joined the Army to "fix" me... yeah that worked out great. Haha

I can understand your frustrations with the first panel. I think its mostly the angle and how the characters fit into the panel. I would also poinr out that sound effects written in kanji might add more impact to Rudy's beating. But that's just me, I really recommend redrawing panel one on its own sheet and not in a panel and see how it works. Who knows, your brain may click and say 'oh, it makes more sense to do it like this.' But at least you're still attempting these poses, every attempt counts (OCSC).
To be honest, I hope that Maria and Gavin stay friends too. Both of them as people are better than this little fued over Rain. But I guess it needs to happen anyway, just as a test of understanding. And even though the smoke screen idea is good, we all know a lie can't last. Poor Maria and Gavin it really is hard for both of them to be expected to be together.
About Debbie, it is quite funny that happens. Naoko Takeuchi-sensei said in an interview she enjoyed drawing Umino-kun the most from Sailor Moon because he IS so different. To me it is a little sad, considering that sometimes our artistic hands just like drawing a character so much that we find ways to put them in scenes. But are still disappointed because they aren't apart of the maincast.
But anyway, it really is a sad page. To be honest, straight people have it hard too. To be expected to fall in love with certain people. To be expected to be swept away by a noble knight and be fallen for by the fair haired damsel. It really is a fantasy most people wish boys and girls had but still don't feel in their hearts. Because all dreams are unique from that cookie cutter mold, and each magical in its own way.
Also went all giggly with your Gavin and Maria smiley faces. Awesome additions. Look forward to seeing Rain, Rudy, and Fara smileys as well.

I love the art in this page, and the first page is both well-drawn and funny. I love the variety of expressions that you used on this page.

Okay... so my deductive reasoning is still in top shape... However, the fact that there are character bios already explaining this whole scenario puts a damper on my self-praise. But that's what I get for not lurking around your earlier work. ¯\(-_-)/¯
As far as this page is concerned, between Maria trying to squish Rudy's head like a grape (which looks great by the way), and Gavin's awesomeface, this definitely made me grin. This is just another good page that balances the serious and the funny quite nicely.
