Description
Another artifact from my bout with basement archeology.Long before the recent proliferation of graphic novels inspired in every 16 year old, a fierce desire to draw his own "manga," one immensely talented artist was ripping off the Japanese cartooning style without even the slightest hint of shame.
That artist, as you know, is Adam Warren, and waay back before entirely too many of you were even born, he drew the ever drool-worthy Dirty Pair. (More recently he is known for his series of Empowered tpb's from Dark Horse--Bondagey Goodness.
)Continuing the tradition, I have tried to co-opt his style, with equal shamelessness, and draw these two wonderful characters myself. I know I suffer mightily in comparison to the awesome Mr. Warren, but I hope you'll find it in your hearts to enjoy my offering nontheless.

Yes and no.
Originally The Dirty Pair was a series of Japanese science fiction novels by Haruka Takachiho.
In the late 1980's the animation rights were sold to a Japanese company, who produced the famous anime; and the comic rights were sold to Studio Proteus and American company.(Who would later be bought out by Dark horse.) Adam Warren produced that comic.
So really it's both, but it's origins are Japanese.

I like these two a lot. Is this a copy from a DP manga? Heh... I was careful in not to type the full name, as I too, know they hate it. Regardless, it's very well drawn. Keep up the good work!

Is there an actual manga? I'm familiar with (And obviously inspired by.) Adam Warrens comic, but I was unaware that the Japanese had ever done a DP comic of their own.
As for the picture being a copy? No. It's an original composition. I paid slavish attention to Mr. Warren's designs, but I came up with the drawing on my own.

No, I was on about Adam Warren and Toren Smith, don't worry. Their style is like manga and they are known to use Japanese names and all. I don't know myself, if a Japanese manga artist did a manga for these two.
As for the pose? Sweet! I love it when folks make up original poses, rather than copying from the original pic in their style.

Ka-boom! I love that inkwork, lots of energy and character in it. It sets them off quite nicely. It's a nice interpretation of the dir... lovely angels.
