All is forgiven, George. I'll take 1000 Jar Jar Binkses just to not have to listen to one more line from fucking Rose Tico.

JasonWolfe In reply to Ryusuta [2019-03-29 17:36:00 +0000 UTC]

Rose wasn't a bad character. They just wrote her poorly and shoehorned her in for an insanely awkward romantic subplot. And chose a plus-sized actress because fuck military physical fitness standards.

Ryusuta In reply to JasonWolfe [2019-03-29 18:00:10 +0000 UTC]

Poorly written... badly cast... unfitting visuals... awkward romance.

...Where I come from, we call that a bad character.

πŸ‘: 4 ⏩: 1

JasonWolfe In reply to Ryusuta [2019-03-30 20:08:09 +0000 UTC]

Not really. Yes, she was poorly written, but even a poorly written character can have good characteristics. Michael Burnham, from Star Trek: Discovery is a good example.

Ryusuta In reply to JasonWolfe [2019-03-31 01:11:10 +0000 UTC]

I mean... if a dog had wheels and handlebars, it would be a bicycle. Hypothetically, if Rose Tico weren't terrible in every conceivable way, she would be a good character. But that's not the reality we live in.

my reason for not liking Force Awaken is not derived from the fact it's a New Hope ripoff...but simply:
1) i'll never see the Yhuza Vong wars in cinematic universe.
2) i'll never see MARA JADE on cinematic universe.
that is all...

The Vong were where the EU jumped the shark for me personally.

Maybe she died offscreen in the (Spoilers for Last Jedi).

Besides. Thrawn is now Disney Canon. Mara Jade could easily come back.

I was willing to give him a pass for The Phantom MenaceΒ (idiot court jester and all) since the main story had not yet developed. Attack of the Clones showed that his clear vision and sense of adventure was history. The Crystal Skull movie was further proof he was past it and phoning movies in. Selling the franchise to Mouse, Inc was a good decision. Β

Promptly forgiven for Rebels and Rogue One. You know, Star Wars stories like he forgot how to make. Β  I was OK for halting Clone Wars, since it had done well in its time, and another season or two wasn't going to nullify the events of Revenge of the Sith anyway.Β Β Β

My only complaint about The Clone Wars is this: Anakin and Asohka made for a more believable romantic pairing than Anakin and Padme ever did. They had good chemistry and built a relationship based on trust, communication, and reliance on one another - all the building blocks of a lasting romantic partnership. Meanwhile, in canonland, Anakin and Padme get together because . . . childhood crush and danger and sand and . . . stuff . . . Yeah, Aname was unbelievably cringy, and not cute "I like like you.," cringy, but socially awkward, emo stalker cringy.

Well, it's been a long year and a half since I responded to ToaNaruto. The Last Jedi did not survive a repeat viewing, and the awkward splicing of two movies into Solo really tarnished the Disney era. And Resistance isn't fit to sell breakfast cereal in ad spots during Rebels broadcasts. Suddenly the prequel trilogy looks balanced and well plotted, albeit with a garbage romance and downer ending. Disney under Katheen Kennedy has proved that a star director off his A game is still better than a movie or TV show directed by committee. I still think George should shut it for selling his life's work for the big payday, but I am more forgiving about his later work than I was in 2003.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zeonista In reply to Chincha40 [2018-01-27 22:14:37 +0000 UTC]

I still do, despite the old guard's shitstorm over The Last Jedi. The Mouse, Inc. side of the corporation is unashamedly money-hungry and not afraid to pander to Hollyweird in order to get business done. But the creative side is still dedicated to making the movies that do well by being appealing first-rate entertainment instead of Prog agitprop or half-hearted stuff like too much of the competition's material. Is the new generation of movies different from George Lucas? Yes, but that's the point. I will always have the original trilogy in my heart, but if there are new stories then there should be new things.Β

You can't really hate that guy. He donated every penny he made off the Disney sale to charity. Effectively buying himself immunity from all criticism.

I am curious to see what his version of episode 7 would have been. While I did like the force awakens I do admit it played it way too close to the vest.

I mean any Star Wars movie is going to make its money back just on the brand name alone. So here was a chance to do something new brave, edgy. What did we get?

A New Hope 2.

I hope episode 8 can do something fresh.

JasonWolfe In reply to TurningOverANewWord [2019-03-29 18:01:06 +0000 UTC]

I liked Ep. 8. Imho, it is the best SW movie, overall. It makes you feel the same sense of desperation, frustration, and hopelessness that the characters are feeling. You want things to work out, you want them to succeed, but every plan fails miserably and in the end, they have nothing. You don't know where this is going to go, you know they are going to win, but the odds are stacked so far against them. It has its issues, yes, but overall, it was a great movie. My biggest complaint was not running with the Ray/Ren team-up. It would have added more tension to the ending, which could have been milked in comic form until Ep. 9 premeriered. Ep. 8 should have been 7, in all honesty. Rey could have been introduced as a Resistance fighter, and Finn as the "code-breaker" - a former First Order officer with questionable loyalties. The relationship between Ray and Ren could have been played out more or less the same, with their sudden team-up occurring in Ep. 8 and continuing in 9.

His vision of ep 7 was what the comics set up. Luke goes away teaches Jedi.luke cloned. Emp palpatine put in clone. Clone brings Leia to the dark side.mean while Han takes care of three kids, and youngest sacrifices self to save sis from dark side. Chewy dies saving small children. Emp-clone killed by luke mara jade and Kyle katarn. Leia returns . Luke married Mara. Grand adml. Thrawn assumes control of empire. Fights blah blah blah. Thrawn assassinated by yuuzong vong. Empire retaliates new republic helps. Vong defeat cripples Hutt gangster economy. New dude takes over empire as a grand chancellor. Now we have a random prequel series featuring Revan. Republic flips off Jedi and kicks them out. Republic declares war on empire. Jedi fight the independent sith. That's all I can remember
