Description Brewing thunderheads during a late summer sunset, over southern Colorado. Caught in the final rays of sunlight that washed over the landscape for only a few seconds before the sun was gone.

Very cool and inspiring photo. Congrats on the great capture. I was going out to take photos during sunset but as I was driving, I could see the sun just cutting the horizon. By the time I parked my car and pulled out my camera it was too late... lol.

Thanks you for the kind comments. Bummer you didn't capture your sunset! They go by so quickly...I usually have about 30 seconds at most before the moment is gone. I got extremely lucky with this one.

Yeah, I missed the sunset, but I got a few ok shots 10 minutes afterwards. I have read a book on digital photography by David Pogue and he explained that many photographers go home right after the sun clips. He suggested that you stay a 10 minutes longer, and sometimes you'll get a great shot as well. That's just a tip I found to share, and it is worth it. Because after the sun sets it gives the landscape a nice tint of color.

I always stick around for a while after. You can get some great sky shots with just a few stars in them, or the crescent moon, stuff like that. After the sun has set, you also get that after-sunset glow, where the sky fades from a brilliant orange, through pink, to deep violet or midnight blues. Lots of good stuff to capture after sunset. Its more difficult to get a good shot worth showing, but sometimes you get lucky.
