Description A few years ago I read China Mieville's "Perdido Street Station", in which the characters, among a whole lot of other things, encounter the avatar of the so-called Machine Council. The description of this avatar, which is basically a corpse with the top of its head removed, and its brain scooped out, and replaced with a bunch of cables, has really stuck with me. So finally I made an avatar of my own, though mine is a lot more "science fictioney", if that's a word. I picture mine as the avatar of some vast AI, who has made this avatar in an effort to understand more about humans, but also to intimidate and scare any visitors to its domain. I imagine that encountering something like this, what looks like a very sexy woman, yet is controlled by a vast and alien intellect, would be profoundly disturbing, to say the least. Might even be a story in it some day!

Time taken: Something like 15-16 hours in all

Tools used: Poser 6, Bruce 6, Photoshop CS, Wacom Volito 2

Oh, and after I made this, I came across this: [link] which is a direct depiction of the Machine Council Avatar described in Mieville's book. (Read it now!)

Thanks... She's supposed to be intimidating, coming towards the viewer, you know. Not sure what you mean by "purle", though.

Yours looks much more intimidating and powerful. More futuristic, too. Neat.

Well, it works...
I found you people (the ones you draw) always look a bit scary. Its something in their faces.

What, like, two phobias for the price of one? Could use it, what with the prices they have! Nah, I'm happy with myself the way I am!

Well at least for the angry looking characters you draw you can apply your signature motto: its meant to be that way.
But really Iยดm not the person to critizise you - if I draw a face it usually looks like Charlie Brown.

I think we spoke about it before: face are most difficult to draw, because we (and many other animals too) have a very fine sense for analyzing faces. So if something is wrong with a face or if it has a certain expression we notice this at once. Thats why its so hard to make realistic artificial faces in CGI.
Perhaps its because you use a certain program to draw people, that pushes you into a certain style?

Damnit, lost my first reply to this!

Actually, the faces in my 3D-renders are not drawn, they're made from 3D-models that I tweak some in Photoshop. The program I use to make my people lets me give them just about any facial expression I want, it's just that I like the angry/threathening/scary/insane look!
