Description (C)2009 Jon Hodgson and Magnum Opus Press.

I still do black and white art for a couple of companies. One of which is Magnum Opus Press, publishers of the new edition of the classic British rpg "Dragon Warriors".

This full page image was intended to be used for both a full pager and to be broken up into individual portraits, which added some complexity to the composition.

After a long break from greyscales I actually really enjoyed this and the accompanying image which I will upload next. There's a lot of freedom when you have limited means.

ArtRage, Photoshop, Painter.

I like the earthy texture and the lived-in faces. I'm in line to do some half page b/w illusatrations for Dragon Warriors myself, which is nice (and an honour to be in on the same project as your good self and some other fine artists). Got to remember to keep the characters suitably rugged...

Like the shapes and textures. I also really admire how you put enough contrast in there without using really dark grays. It must be your brushes

cheers

Very nice.

The guy on the left looks utterly mad, exasperated, or desperately wanting to bite into the warrior's thick, juicy neck! His feet are planted quite far apart, I'd expect his far knee to be bent more.

The kingly figure looks as if he's leaning towards us more than he should be, given the perspective of the foreground warrior - perhaps because he fades out toward the bottom, or because his thighs and forearms appear to descend as they come towards us, rather than being level.
