Description Another concept image for inspiration.

Of the three Exodus ships that left Earth, the Epsilon Eridani mission was a failure; neither the Delta Pavonis nor Orionis colonies ever received the confirmation signal of its successful colonization. The ship arrived without incident after a 10.5 ly trip, only to find a world already occupied. Upon closer examination by the Automaton robotic crew, the planet's cities were abandoned (or possibly destroyed), its oceans evaporated, and its air toxic. A faint signal indicated that something was still alive, deep underground. What was it? And what to do with 20,000 human colonists and 2,000,000 fetuses still in stasis on board the Exodus ship?

Hmmmm I wonder...

This is a copy-cat image of the "Faded Song" piece done by Ariel-X
for inspiration on Extrasolar story lines.
His is much better!

Cargo ships and buildings were created by and I EcoPainted the buildings in Vue. Postwork done in Photoshop.

This is part of the ever-expanding Extrasolar universe created with .

This is amazing. How did you do it?

Thank you! It's been so long I don't remember. I think this was pre-EcoPainter in Vue and I hand-placed the buildings on generated terrains. Looking at it now I would probably do things differently only because I've learned more since then. But as I recall it was fun to make.

Thank you so much, my friend! I try to create a fantastically real world, or at least one that I can visit in my head. I've always been fascinated with old civilizations - what made them successful, what was day-to-day life like, what made them fail? And to put that in an alien context, it's even more exciting!

I've always found interesting !!!!!

Incredible. You know, this nearly reminds me of the underground pyramid and pyramid like catacombs that were created for one of the Alien vs Predator sequels. I can just envision a plethora of activity within the confines of the city. Fascinating renders and comparisons for your image and that of BjΓΆrn. You guys are the bees knees, and your render is freaking amazing!

Interesting - I thought of that AvP temple when I was watching it test-render. Yeah, I was just following in BjΓΆrn's footsteps with his awesome scene. But it's also something that he and I have discussed at great length. There will be more to this story of the "Eridanians" and the ... um hmm ... Massians! (remember me telling you how that name was derived? lol)

Thank you very much, my friend!

Before I say, "WOW" and all of that stuff, I have to share this thought with you. How on earth, well maybe not earth, but how on any planet is it possible to have that many moons and planets surrounding it without pulling the living daylights out of it with massive gravitational pulls? If there is a body of water on the planet, for instance, can you imagine the tides? O.O LOL Just a thought. Okay, now for the WOWEEEE ZOWIE! This is totally amazing! The sky is breathtaking! I haven't the slightest idea how one renders something that looks this complicated! BRAVO!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

jrmalone In reply to Izzie-Kikue [2010-10-12 00:08:02 +0000 UTC]

Ah, you ask the $500,000 question about all those moons! Well, I can't explain, but trust me, it does cross my mind when I fill the sky with moons and planets. I like to think that indeed it would cause some crazy tidal effects, but perhaps in these alien settings the worlds just sort of work themselves out. Yeah, that's a cop-out! lol! I have no freaking clue! Logistics aside, I like to think that somewhere in the universe there's a planetary system like this and its inhabitants turned out okay despite the massive earthquakes and their lack of being able to ever enjoy a day at the beach. But they sure can SURF! LOL! And they look up in the sky and marvel at the sheer mystery and awe of this great universe they created.

Thank you so much, my friend! You always get my ole ticker a-thinkin'!

And btw, I just place things here and there, then hit the render button and do a little clean up in Photoshop. It's actually shamefully easy!

Ohhh, this is awesome!!! The golden glow brings out that something, something, something ancient and mysterious. Great city and landscape and I love the searchlights from the ships! I am so impressed with them and I want the world to know that they are real. (Screaming in shame: - And mine are just FAKE ones made in Photoshop because I don’t know how to make them in Vue ) I love how it turned out. Super work Ryan

jrmalone In reply to Ariel-X [2010-10-11 23:58:33 +0000 UTC]

Thank you BjΓΆrn! The golden glow was intensified in the postwork - I didn't set out to originally create that, but I kind of like the sunset feel to this dead place. Kind of symbolic to the end of a once-thriving civilization.

And your search light on your ship is AMAZING - especially since it's so realistic and you made it ... no, PAINTED it from scratch in Photoshop! I'm the one who should scream in shame - I just clicked a button or two and voila! lol Your whole scene is so much better!

Wow!! I like your take on this too Ryan! I especially like the lighting in this. It gives the city a whole different perspective. Love how you have the moons glowing in the late afternoon sun. Such a desolate feeling to the abandoned city. Especially with the two ships searching with spotlights. Gives me the chills actually. hehe Great render my friend! I know the answers to these things, since Bjorn and I talked it out. But you'll just have to wait... Even though this is another world, it will play a big part in the Orionis Extrasolarians! Fun!

hehe Anticiption... We have so much on the plate - it's a constantly evolving world, and we've had to go and change things that we wrote earlier. I had to put my big story on hold because there was so much that I was missing of the underlying foundation. We're close to solving all that and laying the ground works, so then I will finally be able to finish my elusive "Maelstrom" story.

Once my work settles down I'll have more time to focus on writing and artwork. It's been stressful lately with the day job, but tomorrow we complete a biggie project, so the all-nighter I pull will be worth it to get it all done.
