I'm very excited about the upcoming Scott Pilgrim movie starring Michael Cera and decided it could be fun to make my own poster for it. It seemed appropriate to recreate the cover of the first book. It's an iconic and eye grabbing image.Painted in Corel Painter over the course of a week, maybe around 20 hours total time.
Name and character are copyrighted by Bryan Lee O'Malley.
~~Aug. 2010 update, I forgot to upload this earlier, but I made some adjustments once official movie promotional images started coming out. Shifted some colors a bit for movie accuracy and added a halftone pattern to mimic some of the visual cues from the trailer.
Oh, and go see this movie! It is incredible.

Ha, fair enough. Even fairly soon after I finished this one, I wasn't really happy with it. I think his head's too big, the pose is rather stiff and that's the last thing you'd want a Scott Pilgrim image to be like.

THIS IS SO AWESOME!
i looooooove it.
Although a little crit, the head is alittle too big for the hand thats thrust inward,
if you were going for the realistic look that is.

I think that's a perfectly fair critique, I thank you for it. It was a balancing act between being realistic and sticking somewhat to the exaggerated proportions of the original cover. I agree that there are definitely some wonky size relations in there, but I'm glad it's not too distracting.

Thanks very much. I too have been quite skeptical about Michael Cera snagging the lead role, but I love him in everything else, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. And with Edgar Wright in the director's chair, I think it could turn out fantastic.
